Flower Mound is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,613 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. Flower Mound was founded by Scottish settlers in 1836 and named for the white flowers that grew on a hill near the town center. The original settler families were Presbyterian ministers from Scotland who arrived in Tarrant County in 1836 to start new life after fleeing persecution at home. The first official deed for the town was filed on November 15, 1836, when Rev. David Sutherlin and his family bought land east of downtown from Alexander Caldwell and John Hartsfield. In 1840, another group of Scots Presbyterians moved into Flower Mound from Palestinetown just north of present-day Arlington Heights and began working on a cotton plantation there known as Calderwood Plantation until it sold in 1861 to Andrew Carnegie. In 1865, entrepreneur James Witherspoon built a dam across Cedar Creek to create what is now Flower Mound Reservoir, which would become one of Tarrant County's most important economic engines during its early years as a result of its irrigation capabilities alone. Parked along Rice Road outside of town today are several contributing coal mines dating back to this time including Pemberton Coal Company (now Peabody Energy) No 1 (1896), Cumberland Coal Mines No 1 (1901), and North Texas Coal & Coke Co., Inc.(1902). By 1907, however, other industries had come to take over these properties with local brickyards producing bricks for use throughout central Texas while agricultural production became more predominant through production such as hay/milk/flowers and ethanol fuel sales at nearby White Sands National Monument before ceasing operations altogether around 2005 due to declining demand among commercial customers combined with regulations put into place following Hurricane Rita; flower mounds also ceased local production entirely some years earlier than that due to dwindling resources brought about by climate change Since its founding nearly two hundred years ago FlowersMound has experienced many changes both inside and outside the community itself thanks largely to advances made within technology which have made our lives easier both locally and nationally The history behind Flower Mound can be traced back almost 200 years when Scottish pioneers arrived in Tarrant County searching for fresh water supplies after escaping persecution at home They soon founded what is now known as "FlowersMOUND" because they found white flowers near their settlement . This name stuck even though many different people came up with it over time since no one really knew what it meant For many years there wasn't much activity or development taking place within the community aside from farming and processing products out here on Rice Road because there weren't any other resources nearby- this started changing starting around 1870 when Dallas incorporated all of Tarrant County giving them more power so they could develop things closer to home moreover oil discoveries began happening all over southeast TX which eventually led to better transportation options being available so people could get jobs closer instead of driving all distances like they had been doing before furthermore oil prices went up so companies started investing money back into their businesses so there was more job creation too which helped spur development within FlowersMOUND again . Today we can see all these advancements taken advantage of through technology such as 3D printing which allows us not onlyto create things physically but also prototypes or models which then allows us access to funding etc which helps make everything possible finally making FlowersMOUND one big success story
The Flower Mound, Texas History Museum is a nonprofit museum located in the city of Flower Mound, Texas. The museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of the city and its surrounding area. The first settlement in what is now Flower Mound was established by peaceful Native Americans in 1796. The town name was derived from an Indian word meaning "thousand petals." In 1836, General Sam Houston founded the City of Houston on land donated by Major James Fannin. Houston named the new city after himself because he had visited the ruins of Teotihuacan, Mexico while on his warpath against Mexican forces. In 1839, out of curiosity, John Marshall erected a post office at the foot of Elm Street in present-day Flower Mound. In 1845, when Nacogdoches County was created from parts oftx Harris County, Flower Mound became part of that county as well. The following year saw quite a bit of growth within the newly formed county due to various oil discoveries nearby. By 1850, there were over 100 residents living in what is now Flower Mound proper. By 1861, many businesses had been built around Elm Street including two stores and one livery stable which still stands today (the building has been converted into apartments). One interesting fact about this period in town’s history is that it did not participate in Texan secession until later that year (1865).
