Flower Mound, Texas is a small town located in the county of Tarrant, Texas. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The town was founded by settlers in 1876 and it became a municipality in 1911. The name honors Colonel James Fenton Flower and his family who donated land for the town's development. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location on a ranch that had been purchased by J.D. Garland from Abel Barnes. Garland ran an agricultural business in Flower Mound until he died in 1934. In 1936, the city of Irving incorporated as a result of annexation of portions of Tarrant County from Flower Mound Township. The economy of Flower Mound has been based largely on agriculture since its founding; however, other industries have also developed over time including manufacturing ( cattle products, tires), printing and publishing (the first local paper store opened in 1907), and health care services (a nurses’ home was built in 1961). A variety of arts are popular among residents; flowerminding is one example. During World War II, Flower Mound hosted air-raids against Japan; during these raids, many Japanese nationals were taken into custody and held without trial or charges until their release under United States military custody after the war ended. As a result, considerable damage was done to civilian infrastructure throughout central Texas as well as to some important military sites such as White Sands Missile Range and Lackland Air Force Base which were not hit directly but suffered significant damage from debris created bybombing missions over Texas cities like Dallas/Ft Worth etc..

The Flower Mound Site is a archaeological site located in rural Johnson County, Texas, about 25 miles east of Amarillo and 30 miles west of Wichita Falls. The site was first discovered in the early 1800s by United States Geological Survey surveyors working on a survey of the area. It was named for local flower gardens that were situated around the mound at the time. The Flower Mound Site is an important center for Pre-Columbian American Indian culture because it contains evidence of human habitation dating back to 10,000 years ago. The earliest known occupants of this area were the Atakapa Nation, who lived here until c. AD 900. In 1824, Antonio Lubbock visited this area and noted that there were several villages nearby and he thought they might be related to those near Goliad, TX (now Austin). He also mentioned that some people living here knew how to make pottery. In 1827–28, George Armstrong Custer traveled through this area and reported seeingwhat he thought might be Sioux Indians camping near present-day Flower Mound. This sighting led to a conflict between Ulysses S Grant and Taney County Judge John Denton over who should control access to certain land in central Kansas Territory at the time. In 1868, General James Waggoner destroyed what may have been one of these encampments at nearby Tellico Plains after finding signs of human habitation there as well. In 1865–66, Captain Fayetteville Hudson explored this region for the Union Army during the American Civil War based at Fort Worth Creek near present-day Wichita Falls. Hudson observed Native Americans living hereabouts before his visit and found evidence that they had used fire clay drums from Texas sites dating back 9500 years ago as part of their music ceremonies. After his visit, archaeologists began excavating at the Flower Mound Site with help from government troops led by Colonel Edwin Vail under direction of military governor James Boggs in 1870–71 while construction was underway on a new fortification on White Sands Lake adjacent to Wichita Falls; however further excavation did not commence until 1916 when Major Clarence King became involved withhumorously referring to it as "the flummery place."
