They were first popularized in the late 1800s and early 1900s, when guns became more common and people wanted to protect their firearms. handgun carriers often wore these pouches on their hips or stomach to keep their firearms safe.
Flower Mound is a small town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,149 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Flower Mound was Johnathan Hicks in 1836. A post office called Flower Mound was established in 1846, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1915. The name may be derived from nearby Elmwood Springs (a spa) or from the flower mound seen on some maps of the time as a landmark for traders and travelers passing through Medina County. In 1860, Jno Elisha Smith moved to Flower Mound from Wichita Falls and became one of its first residents. He built the first store thereon and started trading goods with Native Americans living around him. By 1870, he had married Anna Belle Hance and settled down to start a family. Anna Belle's brother-in-law James Addison founded another store here about this time which continued to grow until it merged with Jno's store about 1890. In 1895, local businessman Denton Sennett bought out Addison's interest and renamed his new store "Dallas." By 1907, Dallas had become an important transportation hub due to its location near Interstate 10; by 1920 it had reached 1 million shoppers annually! The growth ofDallas past 20 years has not been matched by that ofthe surrounding community which has shrunk by almost half its size since 1990 when Cowboy Ned [Ned Bauman] took over ownership of both stores after they were sold by their previous owner Artie Kovarik to David Smallridge - who also ran two other stores adjacent thereto - creating what we now know as "FlowerMound Five". This decline began right after 'David Smallridge closed up shop' in late 1999 because he could not keep up with online shopping mall competition (!), causing many people within our community to lose access to their favorite businesses!!! What followed were several years of outright poverty for most residents due to very little economic development taking place outsideof One Stop Mall... So much for `growing up`. Unfortunately today we are still reeling from all that happened back then - even though things have changed somewhat since then! With that said I must interject here because I am sure everyone reading this knows more about `flowers` than anyone alive today... but anyway... onward! Flower Mound is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,150 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Grapevine-Ryan-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The community was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1887 as a missionary station on an isolated piece of land called "Mound Hill". The name "Flower Mound" was given to the town by its first postmaster, who saw flowers growing near the entrance to the old mission complex. A settlement known as "New Beginnings" grew up around this second mission station, and a store opened in 1889. By 1897, all of Flower Mound had been founded and named after American flowers - Dorothy and Harry Willingham opened their flower shop on Main Street. In 1901, mail delivery from Fort Worth was moved to Flower Mound from Fort Worth's other two post offices (Rebecca and Guthrie). At that time, Friendship Baptist Church built a new flour mill which became one of the largest flour mills in Texas. In 1907, First National Bank erected anew building on Main Street which served as their headquarters until it burned down in 1960. A school district was established within Flower Mound by 1907; Spring Branch Elementary School serving grades K-4 operated until 1927 when it became Prairie View A&M High School; Park Ridge Elementary serving grades 5-8 operated from 1928 to 1954; Southgate Intermediate/Secondary School serving grades 9-12 operated from 1955 until 1998 when it merged with North Garland Intermediate/Secondary School to form Flowers Middle/High School (). (Original name: Spring Branch Independent Academy) On January 15th, 1911 there were 11 people living at home when Wm Henson bought 640 acres (252 hectares) of what is now Flower Mound for $5 per acre ($62 per square kilometer). Mr Henson built his residence called "Henderson House" hereon according to deed dated April 7th 1913 available online at: https://www2austin1stcommissionershd2s3d0e4b1a0f36c7ced9a3daed6c7700014bf3db7f6fdee41af5f438ef/. Henderson House still stands today but has been converted into apartments inside! According to surviving family members who live nearby Henderson House still smells like fresh paint & new flooring! This beautiful African American house represents so much about pioneer life back then & how white society viewed Black Americans during those early days!!
The Flower Mound area was settled by the American Indians in the late 18th century. The first European to visit the area was Capt. Juan de Fuca, who explored and mapped the Strait of Georgia in 1792. By 1825, a small post office had been established at Flower Mound and settlers began to arrive in increasing numbers. In 1827, a public road (later called Texas Road) was built through the region and settlers began to trade with Mexicans and other Native Americans. The land around Flower Mound became known as "Mound Country." In 1847, General Sam Houston named the town of Tomball after his victory over Mexican forces at San Jacinto Creek. The town grew rapidly and by 1861, it had reached its peak population of 10,000 people. However, during World War II, Tomball was hit hard by the war effort; its population decreased from 25,000 in 1939 to 8500 in 1945. After the war ended, however, growth resumed and by 1970 Tomball had reached its current size of 3500 residents.
