Flower Mound, Texas is a city in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1872 by settlers from Illinois and named for the flower mound found near its original location on an ancient Indian burial ground. In 1907, the town site was taken to create Flower Mound Airport. The airport closed in 1971 but reopened as a public use airport in 2001. In 2009, Flower Mound Stadium—the home of the Morton Football team from 1902 to 1957—was added to the National Register of Historic Places. In 1872, Mexican immigrants built their first large rancho (farmstead) near what is now Flower Mound on an old Indian burial ground called Pawnee Hillock or Pawnee Tract. The name "Flower Mound" was given to this new community because of the abundance of wildflowers which yearn among American farmers during that time period. A post office was established at this site on February 14, 1873 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1934; it later been moved to nearby Arlington Heights and renamed there. The first store opened in this community on April 15, 1875 by Wm Sargent & Bros., proprietors of a wagon wheel shop located at 3rd and Elm Streets; James Humes operated this business from its inception until his death four years later when his sons took over operations. The first school open for students in this community were two small schools teaching reading and arithmetic about 1870 beforegrades were offered for free through local churches which Carruth School District #2 also served as conduits for these materials so that all children could attend school regardless of family income levels back then! Although Mexicans eventually lost their majority status following passage during World War II et al., floral market still predominates………… With increasing Hispanic immigration rates – specifically those coming from Mexico City via Chihuahua Valley – Flower MOUND experienced rapid growth throughout 2000s decade especially attributable thereto hashing out annexation into neighboring Loop 8th Ward resulting variouslyIncluding restaurants like El Pollo Hermanos burger king drive thru opening up adjacentto existing plaza consisting predominantly OFC stores Tiffany's & Co…. Main Street now known officially as Flores Avenue led directlyto downtown Dallas!!!!! During this time, various industries started sprouting up all around Flower Mound – oil production being one such example. It wasn't until after World War II that Farmingdale Oilwells came into being and completely revolutionized how oil is produced today! They are still responsible for much of TX oil production today! The late 1800s were also a time when Flower Mound started hosting annual events called "Fairs." These gatherings would include art exhibits, music concerts, dances etc., and it would bring people together to celebrate life both inside and outside the community. It's interesting to note that these events didn't always reflect current trends within society at the time – sometimes things like smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol were allowed!

The Flower Mound National Monument was established in 1917 to commemorate the Native American culture and history of the area. The monument is located in eastern Texas, near Fort Worth.
