Farmers Branch is a town in Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town of Farmers Branch was settled in 1881 by Irish-American farmers and their families who came to the region after emigration from Ireland. The name "Farmington" was used for a small village located on the other side of the Brazos River in what is now Dallas County. That village had been abandoned when settlers discovered oil resources near present-day Farmers Branch in 1867. In 1881, entrepreneurs George Withers and Frank McNaught bought land in what is now Farmers Branch and began to build a cotton gin and other businesses there. In 1886, they founded the first local bank in Texas – First National Bank of Texas – which became one of the largest banks in America before it merged with Chase Manhattan Bank in 2002. By 1910, more than 60% of all agricultural products grown here were exported; today about one-third of all goods sold here are exported as well. In 1916, World War I veteran Major General Lew Wallace moved his family from Wichita Falls, TX to farming country southwest of Austin so that he could provide leadership during wartime efforts against German forces occupying Belgium and Holland (the war's first major international conflict). General Wallace's wife later became an early settler here; she helped establish Stroud Elementary School and started a grocery store next door. By 1922, over half a million people lived within 2 miles (3 km) of downtown Austin – making it one of the most heavily populated cities on Earth at that time! During Prohibition era nationwide prohibition sales reached record highs via mail order through unregulated operators such as Pawnbroker's Gallery & Liquor Store chain across U.S., Canada & Mexico; approximately 12 million individual items were purchased between 1915-'21 including some 1 billion cigarettes! After repeal organized crime flourished until 1933 when state law enforcement crackdown brought end to outlawing liquor sale statewide

In that year, Farmers Branch also completed construction of its first paved road. By 1910, Farmers Branch had a population of over 100,000 people and numerous businesses including banks, hotels, stores, lumberyards and mechanics shops dotting its streetscape. In 1915, Brazoria County formed a new county with its own government which led to increased development around Farmer Branch including annexation of other smaller towns within the county such as Pascagoula and Clear Creek

Farming in Texas began with the Spanish colonists in the 16th century. The land was first leased from the Native Americans and then sold to settlers. In 1845, Texas became a state, and agriculture quickly became an important part of its economy. Today, Texans are some of the most ardent farmers in America.
