With World War II looming (the plant produced millions of dollars worth of munitions), FWP began to focus on defense manufacturing rather than agriculture; this led to decline in Cotton production from 50% pre-war to less than 20% post-war according to some estimates while Steel production increased overall during that time frame becoming TX's 5th largest employer by 1945 despite having only 10% share in Cotton output! However during the Reagan years much investment was made into new cotton farming technology which has since paid off with quadrupling world cotton prices between 1990-2010! Today, though still ranking among TX’s top 3 counties for job growth (+9%), Agriculture is no longer dominant – Manufacturing now accounts for more than two thirds (67%)of Employment while Services provide over 15% jobs! Some examples include: Pharmaceuticals/Healthcare products company Landis+Gravis leading $1B dollars worth over 2012 sales; Knoppers AG semiconductor company ranked 2nd worldwide within 2yrs behind Samsung; major hospital systems such as Baylor University System medical center & Methodist Hospital affiliating with many Fortune 500 companies including Johnson & Johnson etc.; biotech firms like Monsanto have moved their research operations from Austin to nearby Fort Worth so they can remain competitive against foreign rivals….. even fast food restaurants have started investing directly into local farmland creating fresh produce….. again reminiscent of 1920’s Agricultural Village days when small farmers could barely afford tomatoes but today's supermarkets carry everything from fruits&veggies to meat
