In 1871, John Waddell founded the First National Bank of Euless with $5 worth of gold coins he had taken from Mexico during the Mexican-American War. At that time, there was only one bank in Texas open to American citizens. In 1893-1894 Charles Goodyear established a shoe factory in Euless which became one of the largest plants in America up until its closure in 1973. As early as 1907, residents began planning for a municipal building and meeting hall on Elm Street which would be used for government proceedings such as elections and fire safety meetings; these plans progressed more slowly than initially anticipated because of World War I disruption of transportation links between Texas and Oklahoma City (then known as Omaha). Finally completed in 1926 after years of construction work by local farmers and businessmen including Ozzie Newsome Sr., civic leaders decided against using it due to its large cost compared to newer facilities available within town limits or nearby cities like Amarillo or Dallas/Fort Worth. For many years after that date it served primarily as an old schoolhouse which was frequently shown on aerial maps around that time but never used commercially because its size made it impractical for housing any significant number of people inside while allowing plenty of outdoor space outside for activities such as farming or hunting etc.. A new municipal building was built adjacent to Main Street (now US Highway 281) serving as both the city hall and library until 1965 when it burned down due to arson by local teenagers who thought the structure looked cool on TV commercials! A new municipally funded library opened on Elm Street soon afterwards but closed again after just five months due to financial problems caused by growth within town limits rather than anything attributable to the library itself! It reopened under another name following several years’ hiatus before finally closing again less than two years later due largely to budget constraints following increased traffic levels associated with oil production activity along Interstate 35 near present day Amarillo . After almost 20 years without permanent use Houston purchased most of what remain[ed]of downtown Euless retail property including most likely buildings 1-3 Main street east forming today's downtown core
Euless was founded by Alexander Euless in 1871. He leased land from the Cherokee Nation and erected a sawmill, which he operated until 1876. In 1878, Euless built a gristmill on the present site of the city. The mill continued to be run until 1907. In 1902, Euless built a cotton gin and steam engine to process cottonseed oil into fabric goods. The plant remained in operation until 1968.
