Euless is a small town in Texas that was founded in 1879. The town is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth, TX metropolitan area and has a population of around 120 residents. Euless was founded by two brothers in 1883. The town was named for the two families that first settled there, the Euless and the Clements. The original store and post office were located on what is now First Street. In 1907, the town became a city. In 1915, Euless married its first female mayor, Mrs. Hilda Sitton-Moses of Amarillo. That same year, they also built the first municipally owned school in Texas. From 1916 to 1951, Euless had its own fire department; however, it merged with Amarillo's department in 1951. The construction of Interstate 20 in 1965 caused a great deal of growth in Euless; as a result, much of downtown was replaced with new buildings including an arena and a library/theater complex. The city Limits program began operation in 1984 which limits development within City Limits to no more than 10% of total land area (minus any annexed parcels). Today, much of downtown remains untouched from when it originally flourished as an active community center and business district; however, off-site parking is now available for residents on Market Street between First and Second Streets (formerly Third Avenue) east of I-20 south of Sixth Street (formerly Fifth Avenue). Additionally, additional public works projects are currently underway such as widening Third Avenue from First to Seventh Streets near I-20 eastbound lanes as well as resurfacing all streets within City Limits southward from I-20 westward including some portions bordering State Highway 287 northward into Kleberg County
