Euless was founded in 1881 by James A. White and his wife, Sarah Goodnight White. The town was named for the Texas River, which Euless crossed on a wagon trip from Austin to Corpus Christi. In 1902, the city of Euless merged with the town of Coryell to form the City of Coryell. The merger caused much problem as both towns had different ordinances and governing structures; however, it lasted for only one year before it was voided by a court order. On December 16, 1903, the City of Coryell disbanded when its mayor refused to sign an ordinance creating a fire department. From then until 1967, there was no city government in Euless; all local functions were handled by individual homeowners or businesses who elected their own officials. In 1951, an act passed by the Texas legislature designated Euless as a Hispanic Cultural Diversity Center (HCDC). At first this designation did not include any services offered to Hispanics outside of cultural events and seminars; however, in 1982 HCDC began offering bilingual services including instruction in Spanish and English language classes as well as cultural heritage programming such as art exhibitions and history lectures. In 2002 HCDC celebrated its centennial anniversary and made publications announcing that it has served Mexican Americans located throughout Texas for over 100 years (the date is actually 1916). On September 30th, 2013 Mayor Donny Ghazarian announced that he would be leaving office at the end of his term on October 1st after three decades serving municipalitywide; effective November 3rd he succeeded him with Brian Martinez taking office vacated seat in Councilman’s Office #1 vacated by Donna Cunningham while she served her sentence for Official Misconduct related to her campaign treasurer role within her previous political party [Cunningham being convicted thereof].Councilman’s Office #2 also vacated when Kathy Whelan resigned due to Special Election Results having been certified two days prior thereto setting up an election between herself & county Judge Will Hinson who ran unopposed following Cindy Cook’s disqualification from running based upon charges of Tampering With Evidence during her prosecution for Official Misconduct ]. These elections resulted in Tammy Hancock being elected County Judge instead thereby ending Valley View Heights’ thirty-year struggle against what has come to be known colloquially as “The Valley View Heights storybook saga” EULESS TEXAS HISTORY
