These events helped create an appreciation for flood control measures among Texans—a sentiment that would continue through many decades until Seal Lake Dam broke free from its restraining arms during Hurricane Harvey in 2017
Euless was founded in 1853 by John H. Euler, a German immigrant. The town developed around the Euler cotton gin and post office, which were built in 1858. In 1916, the United States Postal Service merged with the Texas Post Office to form the USPS. By 1938, when it absorbed the Dallas-Fort Worth Mail Company, Euless had a population of about 25,000 people. It declined in population during World War II and fell victim to suburbanization; however, it regained its former size by 1960.
