In 1867 Texaco built a refinery there and began producing gasoline from kerosene and other oils. The refinery continued operations until 1977. In 1893 oilman John Denton founded Chitimacha Petroleum Company to exploit natural gas reserves discovered east of Euless by George Fenton within blocks of his ranchland then leased to Chitimacha Oil Company founder Edwin Denby Jr.. Denton built an oil pipeline from Chitimacha River into nearby Refinery Row to transport crude oil products from his fields directly toTexaco's refinery in downtown Dallas for onward shipment across state lines. In 1916 Chitimacha Petroleum merged with Texaco; production stopped at Refinery Row but continues today as Midwestern Natural Gas Corporation's (MNGC) production line produces refined products such as gasoline and jet fuel out of earthen reservoirs located throughout Sprinkle Valley west of Frisco TX under an agreement between MNGC and Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (APC).

McClain as a small farming community on the banks of the Trinity River.
