Euless is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,830 at the 2010 census. Euless is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Denton metropolitan area and is the home to The Abbey Fine Arts Center. The first known mention of Euless was in 1836 when it was called "Cottonwood". In 1849, Euless was renamed "Euclid" after Jameson Euclid, an American Civil War general and native of Eusebio, Spain. In 1907, the post office moved from Cottonwood to Euclid and kept that name until 1955 when it changed back to Cottonwood. In 1915, a cotton gin operated by Isaac Newton Sweet & Co., which still stands in downtown Euless, became the first commercial cotton gin in Tarrant County. It processed more than 12 million pounds of raw cotton over its 34 years of operation. In 1937, local businessman Wernher von Braun designed and built what is now MacGregor Stadium in central city for use as both a football stadium and arena for various events such as rodeos and circuses. The stadium held its first game on November 15th against Carthage College before seating 10,000 spectators. After being used as a training ground for USAAF pilots during World War II it served again as an arena until 1994 when it burned down making it permanently unavailable for football games. A new $108 million stadium complex—the largest ever built in Tarrant County—opened gates on September 1st 2006 with all proceeds going towards local charities chosen by the town council including cancer research (the Von Braun Stadium Foundation), Habitat for Humanity (Homes Across America), Boys Town USA (Boys Town Dallas/Fort Worth Charity Inc.), Special Olympics (Texas Olympic Committee) and food banks (Southside Community Kitchen). Euless is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles east of Dallas on the banks of the Trinity River. Once known as an agricultural center, Euless has since become a popular tourist destination for its history and culture. The town was founded by Anglo-Saxon settlers in 1873 and became a census-designated place (CDP) in 1972. As of the 2010 census, the population was 7,914. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Texas were Spanish traders and missionaries who journeyed through present day Euless during the early 17th century. In 1813, General Sam Houston purchased land at what is now Euless from local Indians and began construction on a rancho called San Jacinto dotting today's downtown area with large homes. The town was platted in 1873 by John Sweeny and named after Houston's personal physician Dr. James Fenton Ewing. In 1916, shortly after World War I ended, President Woodrow Wilson recommended that all U.S. territories be treated as Mexican provinces resultant in creation of Euless CDP which became effective January 1st 1917 under terms of Plan 1066 approved by Congress on July 2nd 1916 pursuant to section 3(a) of Act No 102-343 entitled "An Act To provide for organizing Territories within the United States." At this time much of rural west Texas had been annexed into newly created Mexico City while other portions including parts of today'sDallas County were still part of Anglo-American Texas Eulerass experienced rapid growth following its incorporation into the new territorially organized city limits despite some difficulties encountered initially such as lack of water supply or zoning regulations which remain unique to this day; most recently with annexation into neighboring Arlington Heights resulting in an increase in housing prices reaching up to $300 per square foot! Euless was founded in 1872 by John E. Barnes and his wife Emma. The town grew quickly, and within a few years had a population of over 100 people. In 1876, Barnes donated land to the city of Euless for the purpose of creating an urban area. By 1880, Euless had become a thriving community with its own schools, businesses, and churches. Euler's Creek ran through the town, and residents used it for irrigation purposes. The creek also provided water for livestock and for local mills which produced flour, cottonseed oil, lumber, dairy products, and other goods. In 1902, Barnes donated land to the city for use as an open-air park. This park included a large pavilion designed by architect Arthur Ashe that became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Euless. In 1960, Texas A&M University (TAMU) moved from Austin to College Station in neighboring Limestone County and established its first campus near Euless. This event brought about increased traffic on FM 1520 which crossed Baker Road into College Station at mile post 488 (now US 281). To deal with this traffic congestion, TAMU erected two bridges over Euler's Creek: one across Main Street on Baker Road and another over FM 1520 on Patton Avenue. In 1984 TAMU built a new football stadium adjacent to Campus Drive in downtown College Station which served as home field for both the university's men's and women's teams until 2011 when they moved to their current stadium located behind Aggie Stadium
