Ennis, Texas is a small town located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 5,633 at the 2010 census and 6,092 at the 2015 estimate. It is part of the Amarillo-Texarkana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Ennis comes from "en-nis", meaning "place where there is a pond." The town was founded by two brothers, John and Jesse Ennis, in 1876 on land that they bought from Antonio Menchaca. The brothers donated some acres (now known as Main Street) to the community for use as a public square and schoolhouse. They also built a dam on creek called Buffalo Creek to raise water for irrigation purposes. In 1886, an oil well was drilled in what is now Ennis and production began soon after. Local citizens pooled their money to build a store on Main Street in 1907; this became known as "The Bank". In 1918, an important event occurred when World War I veteran Sam Houston came to live in town and led a campaign against prohibitionism which helped lead to prohibition being repealed six years later in America's first statewide referendum vote favoring prohibitionism (64% to 36%). In 1924, Ennis became one of several towns in Texans set up as political subdivisions of Galveston County; it should not be confused with Galveston County which comprisesHouston metropolitan area On July 1, 1901, Ennis had its incorporation as an independent city pursuant to Act No. 103 of 1901 (Chapter 824), approved by the Texas Legislature under then-Governor James Hogg (R). On November 4th 1913--the day following passage by both the House and Senate of State Bill 210 repealing all local prohibitions within Travis County--a meeting was held at The Bank on Main Street with representatives from all eight municipalities within Travis County present including Ennis; this was considered indicative of early approval by county leaders for incorporation into new countyhood After more than 50 years living under one roof with other Texans through various civic organizations such as flood insurance salesmen who formed “Wee Willie’s Boys” during floods due to Texaco operations along Buffalo Creek near our current downtown center; we are proud to announce that our beautiful new City Hall has been dedicated – Thank you Mayor Pro Tem Randy Brockman!

Ennis, Texas is a small town in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of Ennis County and the city of Ennis. The first European to visit what is now Ennis was James Fenton in 1802 when he explored the area for oil prospects. In 1827, John Wesley Powell mapped out a route to Laramie on the Kansas River. When he reached Ennis on July 8, 1827 his party became lost and were forced to return home by nightfall. A year later members of George Sibley's expedition discovered oil seeps in this area while exploring West Texas near Fort Worth. On January 16, 1830 Stephen Fenton Sr., father of James Fenton founded the town here after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) east of present-day Ennis from Asa Whitney for $10 per acre (4%. In 1840 United States forces burned down trading post at Milam Creek because it had been used as a base of operations by Native Americans during Indian Removal. The land that would become today'sEnnis was purchased from the Indians in 1845 by Andrew Jackson for $5 per acre (0% royalty). In 1865–1868 George Wickersham built a sawmill and gristmill on White Oak Creek within current day downtown Ennis with help from local farmers and citizens who subscribed to Wickersham's offer for one share each in order to secure access to water supplies necessary for production. Water availability remained an important factor until well into the 21st century; as late as 1954 some residents still used hand pumps obtained via irrigation systems which circulated groundwater through underground pipelines brought Hope City’s water table down below surface! On December 10, 1912 Congressman John Leland proposed amending HJR No. 97 which designated Baylor University’s new football stadium on Houston Street across FM 936 en route to Dallas as “The Cotton Bowl Stadium” due its location adjacent to then-Universities Parkland School District #1 campus north of I-635 leading directly into Cowboys Stadium! The stadium would replace Cowboys Field which did not open until 1921 after being built on land donated by Drayton Pinchot! On February 3, 1942 World War II began when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor resulting in America entering World War II against Axis powers including Japan Ennis Chamber of Commerce held their first meeting that same year with president VF McCann presiding over proceedings chaired by Mrs JW Marriott World War II changed many aspects surrounding life here including: jobs available decreased drastically; prices went up; military tried hard tryinna keep locals away but sometimes failed miserably;; Postwar period brought about major changes such as population increasing rapidly preoccupied with getting back on their feet;; 1946 –Present has seen steady growth spurring redevelopment efforts
