In 1949, David Hogg opened what is now called Hogg's Optical Supply Company on Loop 410A in downtown El Campo with the primary intent of providing customers with top quality eyeglasses and sunglasses at an affordable price point. El Campo is located about eighty miles (130 km) south of Dallas and two hundred fifty miles (500 km) north of Houston. In 1924, a cotton gin and stockyards were opened by George W. White at what is now the intersection of I-30/I-635 and FM 19606. This station helped to stimulate growth in El Campo and surrounding areas; however, it ceased operations in 1969 because of competition from more developed towns in neighboring counties. In 1984, Vince Lombardi visited El Campo while he coached the NFL's Green Bay Packers; during his visit he announced plans for a new stadium to be built in nearby Arlington Heights which would eventually become home to the Chicago Bears football team. The $100 million project became known as Lambeau Field after then-President George H.W._ Bush who personally donation ensured its construction began under his presidency with plans for it to open in 1988 rather than 1988 as originally planned due to financial difficulties stemming from Reaganomics deregulation policies enacted during his time as president).

Today, much has changed for El Campo over the years both good and bad including increased traffic due to new construction projects such as the Miller Ranch Toll Road which runs through town; suburban development around it; and increasing numbers of people commuting into downtown Austin for work or school each day adding even more congestion on already congested streetscapes throughout town center neighborhoods like Alamo Square and Midtown Plaza. Despite these challenges though, Mayor Baca remains committed to making sure that all aspects of life are improved in his city while still providing quality public services that make our community a valuable part of Austin’s fabric
El Campo was founded in 1836 by the Butterfield Overland Mail Company. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of around 500 people. Other businesses in El Campo included a tannery, bakery, post office, hotel, and grocery store. The town also developed a sizable agricultural sector with Processing Plant No. 2 being built in 1853 to process cattle feed into tallow and lard. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to El Paso after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's successful campaign against Mexico in what is now Texas.
