This business was established by Patsy Pate in 1887 and continues to provide quality holsters and firearms services to customers today. For most Texans living outside Austin or Houston, pistols were their only carry option. Gun owners from all walks of life came to El Campo for pistol shows, tournaments, target shooting competitions, and more. In addition to its role as a manufacturing hub for handguns, El Campo also served as an important transportation stop on the Lone Star Trail. The first El Campo post office opened in 1884 and closed in 1903. The current post office was established in 1907 and has been open since then. El Campo is located at (36.419695,-95.926562). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 3%, is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,569 people, 1,022 households, and 711 families residing in the town. The population density was 1008 people per square mile (39/km²). There were 1,269 housing units at an average density of 456 per square mile (189/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White alone and 0% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race accounted for 1%
