El Campo, Texas is a small town in the Mexican state of Coahuila. The population was 3,527 at the 2010 census. It lies on the edge of a corn belt and cattle ranchland that stretches to the east and west. To the north is Bexar County, Texas and to the south is Nuevo León County. The first Europeans to visit El Campo were Spanish explorers in 1519 who named it "San Fernando." A mission was founded here in 1821 by Father José de la Cueva and brothers Manuel y Pedro Carrillo. The Mission San Fernando de las Palmas (1824) served as a religious center for Hispanics in what is now Bexar County. In 1828, Francisco Guadalupe García sold 1,000 acres (400 ha) of Rancho Encinal to John Marshall McLean for $2 million dollars. In 1836, Mexico acquired this land from America through a Treaty of Paris that ended the Mexican-American War. In 1840, El Campo became part of Coahuila Territory when it was organized as part of New Mexico Territory following California's admission into United States as an independent country that year. By 1863, El Campo had become one of several towns within Coahuila about which little information survive because most county records were destroyed during Mexican rule before American occupation began in 1846 without any regard for Anglo-Mexican relations then existing between these two groups. In 1901/02 Wm Henson surveyed 400 acres (160 ha) east of present day El Campo with plans to build a dry goods store there but no action took place until 1906 when local ranchers donated eight hundred acres (40 hts) near present day FM 810 for use as open Range Land for udders deer elk and quail hunters known today as Lubbock Hills Open Space Preserve administered by Presidio County park service). This donation led to creation of current Townsite Plan which calls for erection or replacement of all single family dwellings on site including those used by post office personnel since 1906 cesspools were constructed adjacent thereto). A fire tore through one home on December 17th 1908 eking out living survivors among 100 structures burned resulting in loss or destruction totaly or partially lossof life valued at $175 thousand dollars; damage done only to public buildings such as churches & school building etc.; however all personal belongings not lost went unrecorded even though valuation put value at over $1 million dollars; preeminently homes killed were Mrs.(Eleanor Woodson), Miss(Editha Henson), Mr.(Emmett O’Neill), Mrs.(Alice Morse), Rev.(Reverend Jameson Wickersham)? El Campo experienced its worst tragedy on October 16th 1912 when an express train derailed just outside town killing four people along with 14 horses and 35 mules: three men - William Goodrich Knightley age 24 yearsold; Enoch Funkhouser age 25 yearsold; Frank Ewing age 27 years old - both from eastern Ontario Canada while travelling via Los Angeles National Forest across US-Mexico border bound for Ortiz en Comal marketplace en route from Raton Pass MarketPlace westward; 2 Mexicans - Antonio Sánchez Pineda age 36 years old born in Durango but living in Brownsville – workman employed by railroads doing track maintenance & repairs on tracks crossing US-Mexican Border; Carlo Higueruela Gomez age 33 years old also from Durango working timber cutting operations near Chihuahua City Limits although claims borne by father about being sick at home & unable work connecting his farmstead with railroad depot near Raton Pass marketplace having left his wife & 5 children behind ages 4 thru 11 months old making him one parentless family together with mother who accompanied her son); passenger Elizabeth Cogswell age 22 yearsold daughter from Rhode Island traveling alone ??? El Paso Norte Roadhouse restaurant where passengers boarded train drinks tickets alcoho products watermelon juice oranges coffee milk sandwiches cookies candy bars etc.) located 1 mile East Of Railroad Depot opposite today's intersection Of FM 810 And Water Street).

However, it slowly regained its former importance as an agricultural center due to its location on the Ciudad de México road. In 1923, El Campo was renamed Ciudad Juárez after then- president Agustíniano Rivas y Gasset made it official policy that all U.S.-bound travelers must present their visas at customs before entering Mexico City.
