There are also a number of Muslim mosques located in nearby Round Rock and Haysville. In addition to its churches and mosques, Edinburg provides a variety of cultural attractions such as the Hudsworth Museum which focuses on history and culture from around Texas; the EdinburghFestivals which annually features arts and crafts displays; the Schaefer Brewery; and Crump Park which offers activities for children as well as an amphitheater capable of accommodating up to 1,500 people for events such as concerts or summer festivals.

Edinburg is located in Hudspeth County, Texas. It was founded in 1872 by Pvt. John H. Neely and his wife, Mrs. Laura Clementson Neely, as a post station on the Texas Pacific Railroad. The town grew rapidly when the railroad was extended to Edinburg in 1876, and by 1886 it had a population of 2,000 people. In 1907 the town became an incorporated city and has remained that way ever since. The original town site was approximately square with a total area of about . Today there are several buildings on the original square including the old courthouse which is now used as a library; the Methodist Church; and the Post Office Building which still stands today (although it has been converted into residential use). The first school in Edinburg was built in 1872 by Mrs. Neely and taught grades one through twelve. The first high school opened in 1893 and served grades thirteen through eighteen. In 1916 Edinburg voters passed an ordinance providing for public education within its borders via private schools if parents desired such schooling. The first public high school building (now known as Old High School) was constructed on Euclid Avenue near what is now First Baptist Church while construction of the new building on Broadway Street continues to this day (it opened in 1927). In 1925 Edinburg Voters passed an ordinance establishing a fire department which operated from departments 1-6 until 1937 when it merged with City Hall Department #7 to form City Hall Department #8 (which still exists today). The first female firefighter, who also served as city administrator for nine years, was Miss Jessie Ahern from 1919-1925. In 1957 Mayor Samuel Schieffer designated Edinburg "City of Progress" pursuant to Section 5 of Article XII of the Municipal Code of Austin, Texas et al.. This designation allowed for special privileges and advantages not available to other municipalities such as tax breaks or freezers at city hall.. These special privileges included increased funding for municipal services including police protection, streetlights, water supplies and more! In 1967 another amendment to the Municipal Code reclassified "City of Progress" into "Edinburger Township" effective January 1st 1968.. This change made it possible for citizens living within township limits to vote at township meetings instead of just at city hall levels! Since then additional annexations have occurred making Edinburgh Township one full municipality with over 120 residents!

During the Mexican-American War (1846-1847), Edinburg served as a garrison for Alamo Heights. In 1865, Edinburg was incorporated as a municipality with a population of about 2,500 people. The city experienced rapid growth during Reconstruction period (1867-1870) due to its position as a major transportation hub and its connections to other cities in the region. In 1898, City Council voted to annex Midland County and name the new county "Edinburg" in honor of John A. Edinburgh Sr., mayor from 1889-1891 and member of City Council from 1892-1900.
