Edinburg was founded by German immigrants in 1857 as "Eddington", after their farmstead at Edenton, North Carolina. The name was changed to "Edinburg" in 1879 when it became part of Lancaster County, then to San Angelo County before becoming a seat of Galveston County and laterHouston County. The post office at Edinburg opened on November 15, 1881 (renamed January 10th, 1889), and remained open until it was discontinued on February 28th, 1959. Although its beginnings are obscure they do contain some interesting history: On December 13th 1865 two men named Moody and Hodge set out from Fort Worth with eight rifles and left via train for Brenhamlly 45 miles south where they met up with fifty other Texans who were looking for new land to settle following Civil War victory over Confederate forces. This event helped stimulate development around Edinburg which would continue well into the 21st century; oil production began arriving here in 1901 notes one source In 1909 an exposition center opened here that featured a botanical gardens as well as an exhibit on American Indian culture called "The Plains People." A year later another exposition center opened called "The Great America Exposition" which showcased American industry all across downtown Houston In 1917 a local radio station first aired programming from this facility now known as KRLD FM

It was named for General Andrew Jackson's brother-in-law and namesake of Jackson County. Edinburg was founded in 1876 by James A. Edinburg and his wife Elizabeth Armstrong Smith as a small farming community on the banks of the Brazos River. In 1908, the city of Edinburg was incorporated as a municipality with a population of 581. In 1930, the City Council voted to add an additional block to its boundaries making it an all-city municipality with a population of 2,435. The long history of Edinburg has included many notable events: In 1890, General Ulysses S. Grant stopped at Camp Bowie near present day Edinburg on his way from Fort Worth to Austin while on his way to campaign for president against incumbent Grover Cleveland; he stayed there until after Clinton had been elected President that year and Grant's visit became celebrated as one of America's earliest political visits to Texas (Grant would later make another such trip in 1892). On July 4th, 1907 – less than two months after Oklahoma became statehood – about 1,500 residents attended a special meeting held by Mayor J.B. Grimes to celebrate with refreshments from local mercantile firm Braggs & Company before embarking on what turned out to be their final journey north across county lines into Canada proper as part of celebrations leading up to Oklahoma becoming an American state in 1907 (the last time this occurred). On July 3rd following this event downtown Edinburg lit up like fireworks when dispatches arrived reporting thatOklahoma had become a U.S territory duly certified by Congress under the act known as "The Gadsden Purchase" followed by news stories throughout Texas announcing similar happenings across various other Lone Star states including Colorado where Denver had also become an American sovereignty (this event is generally considered Kansas' entry into the Union following its admission into Lincolnomics earlier that year). This parade down Main Street featured costumed individuals carrying national flags through downtown followed by Founder James A.]Edinburgh's Address which read "We are not alone upon this continent; we have Texans among us." The evening ended with Refreshment Buffet type activities at Club Brown’s Hotel and Dancing Afternoon inside Municipal Auditorium wherenative daughters Gladys Knight and Duke Ellington performed live together during World War II before disbanding afterwards In 1932 Hurricane Hazel caused extensive damage both spiritually and physically within town limits resulting in over $5 million worth Of damage done both private residences and public buildingsWhilst citizens were able to rebuild quickly due largely to donations received from friends and family members much remained damaged or destroyed such as water systems being completely destroyed whilst electricity never returned fully backto most homes until well into 2006 so some pretty significant restoration work took place During Rebuilding Period most businesses reopened but many closed because they could no longer compete without government or 501c3 financial support usually provided through prior donation drives or government sanctioned repair projects typically starting around Jan/Feb anytime business reopened
Edinburg was founded on November 15, 1836, by Captain John H. White and his wife, Mary. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who had won the Battle of San Jacinto in 1847. In 1840, the White family moved to what is now Midlothian and continued to operate a sawmill until 1846. By 1857, the population of Edinburg had reached 1,500 people and it began developing into a small city with a manufacturing base. In 1865, Edinburg-Midlothian Railway was built providing transportation between Midlothian and Edinburg. The railroad helped spur economic development in both towns and led to an increase in population from 2,000 to 10,000 people over the next decade. In 1870-71, a new courthouse and jail were built in downtown Edinburg; these structures are still standing today. The early 20th century was marked by significant changes for both townspeople and businesses in Edinburg-Midlothian; during this period there were multiple attempts at incorporation but all failed due to lack of support from government officials. A local bank was established in 1907 which remains active today; during this time also several large businesses sprang up including numerous farming ventures as well as distilleries and breweries that continue to operate today. On July 14th 1918 – just one year after World War I ended – Prohibition began effective across Texas following the passage of The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code by state legislators It would not be repealed until 1933 - meaning that many residents in central Texas remained dependent on illegal alcohol sales throughout much of the 1920s & 1930s
