A few English-speaking families also settled in the area around Mount Pleasant during this time period beforeEventually English speaking people left for other parts of Texas during the mid 1800s or they were driven out by white settlers who arrived earlier and established themselves more permanently in what became known as East Austin or Austin proper. In 1846, when Mexico ceded control over Texas (which it had fought for) to President James Kenedy, Governor Mirabeau Bierstadt ordered all citizens of Mexican origin living east of San Antonio be deported without due process or trial because he felt they constituted a threat to Anglo-Saxon settler dominance in that area. Most did leave but some managed to stay behind and form small communities scattered around present day Austin and El Paso counties while awaiting their chance at citizenship and inclusion into American society under Kenedy’s new government. Only about 10 percent of these residents actually received Citizenship until the late 1860s when Congress passed legislation creating county lines throughout Texas providing for racial classification instead of just geographic boundaries which then led to further subdivisions within each county such as Edinburg/Mount Pleasant which gave rise eventually both cities’ current names

That same year saw the construction of what is now known as Texas State University - which would later become one of America's most prestigious universities - and major contributions were made by both black and white students alike. During World War II, Edinburg played a significant role as an airfield for the United States military; its citizens helped providesupplies to troops stationed there throughout Southeast Asia and Europe. After the war ended, many residents decided to return to their prewar lifestyle while others built new homes or started businesses in nearby neighborhoods such as Midtown Dallas or Fort Worth annexation into Denton County occurred on December 15th 1969 followed by total growth (30%) due to suburbanization that has continued uninterrupted since then In recent years much progress has been made with regards to public education within our community with several landmark successes including: A $50 million bond issue passed by voters last November that will fund 1/3rds of a new school building project – which will house 4 middle schools & 1 high school across 3 campuses – each with approximately 1400 students; implementation this past September of Measure H (a sales tax increase) which helps fund important infrastructure projects such as streetlights & parks; another $25 million bond measure approved last May provides for yet another 1/3rds addition to current school funding levels – this time dedicated specifically towards technology & engineering programs thereby providing numerous job opportunities On January 11th 2019 representatives from civic organizations met at Mayor’s Mansion downtown where they announced plans for an ambitious redevelopment effort dubbed “Edinburgh 2020” that aims To create jobs along side preserving key historical landmarks while increasing access to quality public transportation options
Edinburg is located in Hudspeth County, Texas, about 25 miles east of Austin. The city was founded in 1876 by James A. Edin and named for his father, James A. Edin Sr., a justice of the peace and landowner. In 1881, the city became an incorporated municipality with a population of around 100 people. It annexed nearby Ballinger in 1907 and reached its peak as a municipal town with a population of over 1,000 people in 1925. However, the population gradually decreased as cotton production declined in the 1920s and 1930s and industrial jobs replaced agricultural ones. The last resident died in 1990.
