In 1916, he opened a second store on Houston Street between McCullough and Goodnight Streets. This store became known as The Dallas Gun Emporium (now part of NIBH). In 1921, J.C. Higgins bought The Dallas Arms Company from George Dyer and renamed it The Higgins Firearms Corporation (now part of Hogue Firearm Sales). Higgins replaced all original guns with reproduction reproductions made by Stammer & Sons in England under license from Colt’s factory there. This allowed him to keep trademark rights for his company name while continuing production under his own name without infringing on Colt’s patents or copyrights
