Edinburg is a city in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. The population was 350 at the 2010 census. Edinburg has been the home of ammunition production since 1887. The city is located on the banks of the White River and its products include both military and sporting ammo. Ammunition production began in 1887 when James A. Goodrich founded Goodrich Ammunition Manufacturing Company, one of the first American companies to produce firearms ammunition. The company produced shells for rifles, pistols, cannons and shotguns as well as artillery rounds for use by soldiers and militias during the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1899, Goodrich merged with Armoury & Munitions Corporation to form Armoury International Incorporated which continued producing projectiles until it merged with Remington Arms Corporation in 1987. In 1840, Major General Stephen Austin commissioned José Joaquín de Arista with orders to establish a military post at what is now Edinburg on Brush Creek Creek east of San Antonio. Arista built his fortification here and named it Fort Bowie after himself and his army commander Colonel Bowie Richardson who had accompanied him on these initial explorations into Chihuahua Territory. Some parts of today's town were donated by Arista including land that forms part of US Highway 281/US 287 known as Bowie Road or Battlefield Road; while other portions were acquired from various Native American tribes through grants or treaty negotiations following the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Ammunition production began in earnest in 1887 when James A. Goodrich founded Goodrich Ammunition Manufacturing Company under license from Samuel Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company Limited of England to produce rifle rounds for Henry repeating rifles being developed by George Stephenson at this time for use by British forces against troops opposing Spanish rule along the Isthmus of Tejas in Mexico Goodrich quickly became successful manufacturing high quality rifle rounds using a variety of materials including ironclad castings made possible by advances in technology at this time such as interchangeable barrels allowing users to interchange round types without having to Remove each shot from their weapon By 1898 armor Piercing rounds had also been developed by Goodrich that could penetrate up to 80 mm (3") Of armour making them an ideal choice for anti-tank warfare against armored vehicles such as French Lorraine guns used by Spanish forces during their campaign across Central America . Goodrich rapidly attained international export certification for its products giving them continued success throughout World War 1 (1914-1918) when they exported over 375 million rounds comprising all calibers involved representing nearly 50% of all worldwide arms sales that year . During World War 2 (1939-1945), goodricd resumed export certification operations but shifted focus towards munitions development instead resulting in creation of several new divisions within their company including Ammunition Development Department which designed new caliber ranged from 6 Gauge To 40 mm (.310") calibers; Grenade Loading Department which produced grenade launchers utilizing rocket propelled grenades developed initially by David Semonetti; Anti Aircraft Defense Division which created radars capable spotting aircraft above ground while enemy bombers fly below achieving air supremacy; finally Technical Development Department responsible for developing new propellants, initiators and detonators most notably smokeless powder becoming available shortly before D–Day .During peacetime goodricd reverted back to manufacture only select caliber ranges within those existing divisions still producing grenade launchers, anti aircraft defense devices etc

The town's name comes from "Eddie" which was the first settler in what is now Hudspeth County. Edinburg was founded by John Wesley Edwards on land that he had purchased from the Comanches in 1881. He named his new settlement after himself – Edwin or "Eddie." The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, with Edwards and his fellow settlers building homes and businesses around their coal mines and oil wells. By 1915, Edinburg had reached its present size; it included a millinery store, two churches (one Methodist), three schools (one public and two private), one post office (1881-1915), six stores (four general stores and two toy stores), six residences (six dwellings were built before World War I) and 10 acres of cultivated land. By 1930, more than 100 businesses had been incorporated within Edinburg limits; some of these include an ice cream parlor, a grocery store/bakery, four cotton gin shops (later became clothing stores), two theaters (the original Edinburgh Opera House opened on April 28th 1888 - then moved to downtown Houston when it merged with American National Theatre Company in 1966) as well as several departmental stores including JCPenney & Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy's Inc., Radio Corporation of America - Texarkana station KGMB playing country music all day long! In addition to its expanding commercial base*, Edinburg also experienced rapid growth rates in population (+75%)* between 1910-1920† due to natural resource extraction by local farmers – this involved extracting coalbed methane gas from beneath the earth for heating purposes only! * Reportedly over 90% of business activity took place outside of downtown*!‡ The economy began to decline during World War II† but rebounded following the end of hostilities; however† economic stagnation generally continued until about 2000″ when oil production peaked† followed by declines subsequent thereto* (*ExxonMobilupdate: According to company filings through 2019*, total revenue increased modestly (-3%) between 2018Q1and 2019Q4). However according to US Census Bureau data thru 2020*, residential values have increased (+14%)* adjacent to ExxonMobil facilities while nonresidential values have decreased (−6%) off-site nearby*)‡ In recent decades† Edinburgh has seen gentrification occur primarily among white flight residents who commute intoHouston for work(*exactly how much Gentrification** Rice University study found remains unknown). This trend has led Toombs State University (& other nearby universities*) †to establish partnerships with traditional higher education institutions interested in exploring innovative educational opportunities for students—including working together*with Texas A&M University & Mckesson Corp.*(Note: McAfee Corporation is currently suing Rice University for $100 million+)‡
