The rifle and pistol ranges are open to the public and have been used by both civilians and law enforcement agencies. The Eagle Pass Rifle & Pistol Club was founded in 1907 as a means of promoting gun safety within the community. In 1940, the NRA purchased the Range from the local businessmen who had operated it for over 100 years. The first use of firearms at therange occurred on October 15, 1914 when members of the Gadsden Volunteer Fire Department engaged in a shoot-out with outlaws nearthe edge of town. This event is still commemorated annually bylaw enforcement officers as an important training ground for their force. Today, Eagle Pass Rifle & Pistol Club represents one of America's oldest and most popular shooting ranges; allowing all generations to enjoy target shooting without fear of injury or accident. They traveled to Eagle Pass, Texas, to start a rifle and pistol club for the prisoners. The first meeting was held on November 12th of that year. The club operated out of a schoolhouse until 1903 when it moved into its current location. In 1912 the rifle and pistol clubs merged to form the Eagle Pass Rifle and Pistol Association. In 1942, the association became an NRA member affiliate. The eagle pass Pistol & Rifle Club has been active continuously since 1892-1992 with over 1,500 members!
Eagle Pass, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Eagle Pass is known for its natural beauty and history. The name "Eagle Pass" comes from the fact that the pass separates the San Antonio River Valley from the Llano Estacado National Forest. The first settlers in this area were Mexicans who arrived during the Alamo War in 1836. They named their new settlement after General José de Escobar y Costilla, one of those killed in that battle. After years of development by ranchers and farmers, Eagle Pass became a farming community with three schools and two churches in 1937. In 1949 it became a combined city-county seat when Hudspeth County was created from parts of Austin and Travis Counties. In 1998, Eagle Pass voters passed an ordinance establishing a park within city limits called "The Preserve". This park offers education programs on climate change and environmental topics to children living near or within walking distance of its boundaries; as well as opportunities for outdoor recreation including fishing, hiking, biking and camping. Today EaglePass is home to many businesses such as Google Earth Headquarters which provides views of downtown Austin from atop its building; Apple Inc.'s new headquarters which overlooks Downtown Austin along with other buildings on prominent streets; Microsoft's Xbox One manufacturing campus which houses several thousand employees; plus many more residences, restaurants and shops providing services such as retail therapy for families with kids or people looking to get out (eases boredom). On December 7, 1945, the USS Lexington (CV-2) struck an enemy target off shore and sank after hitting a mine in the Gulf of Mexico while en route to San Diego Bay. This event helped create a local nickname which means “the sound of victory”. After the war ended, many businesses sprung up throughout EaglePass such as KFC and Pizza Hut. However, most residents continue to rely heavily on agriculture which has played an integral role in their economy since before there were any towns hereabouts
Eagle Pass was founded in 1853 as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail. The town grew up around the annual market that connected Eagle Pass with Fort Worth and other settlements in what is now Texas. In 1875, the fort burned down, creating a vacuum that led to the growth of Eagle Pass as a new community. In 1907, the United States acquired title to part of Mexico which included Eagle Pass. As part of this acquisition, Congress appropriated money for improvements to the road from Brownsville through Eagle Pass and into Juárez County. These improvements were completed in 1912 and are still in use today. The town has experienced various periods of growth and decline since its founding, but it has always been an important junction on the Chisholm Trail.
