Eagle Pass, Texas is located in the Mexican state of Baja California. It is about 120 miles east of the city of San Diego and about 350 miles west of Los Angeles. The town was founded by Anglo-Americans in 1879 as a trading post on the Pecos River. After annexation by the United States in 1910, Eagle Pass became a municipality and was renamed for General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, commander-in-chief of Mexico’s forces during the revolution that overthrew Spanish rule in 1846. The first rifles used in warfare were muzzleloaders made from stocks of deer or bear meat that had been dried and then carved into short pieces with sharp stones or hatchets. In 1862, Major John Custer used a muzzleloader to shoot at Apaches near present day Tucson, Arizona. In 1876 Colonel George Armstrong Custer shot five hundred buffalo at Fort Hays Battlefield near Kansas City, Missouri using his No 4 Cavalry Regiment's Remington rifle stock which featured eight rounds per inch (RPM) breechblock action secured with two screws headspace down instead ofidelite lugs on centerline barrel banding that helped reduce recoil while still providing high accuracy over long distances traveled during open country hunts averaging sixty yards (.50m). This innovation would eventually lead to Remington's famous "8mm Creedmoor" barrel type cartridge being developed which utilizes 6 grooves on its jacketed projectile for increased velocity over traditional .577 caliber cartridges such as those found in lever-action rifles like Colt's Model 1886 Infantry Rifle chambered for this caliber; this allows 8mm Creedmoor rounds fired from modern American bolt action rifles to achieve speeds approaching 2,000 fps (500 m/sec).
