Eagle Pass is a small town in Webb County, Texas, located on the banks of the Colorado River. The name “Eagle Pass” was given to it by Captain John H. Robertson during his survey of the area in 1881. The first settlers in Eagle Pass were some prospectors who came overland from California in 1876. In 1886, a post office was established at what is now called Depot Road and Eagle Pass Boulevard.In 1912, the first school opened in Eagle Pass and remained operational until 1945 when it was closed due to World War II shortages of educators. In 1951, the first hospital opened in Eagle pass and operated until 1989 when it closed due to budgetary cuts within the Webb County government.In 1974, an interchange was built at I-10 and FM 727 which made it easier for drivers traveling between two rural communities east of Eagle PASS-Juanita to get here. A few years later, a second interchange was built at I-10 and US 90A which connected with US 90A east of town making it easier for people living west of town to get here if they needed transportation services or goods that were available only east of town.
