Eagle Pass, Texas is located in the southcentral corner of Texas and sits on the banks of the Brazos River. The town was founded by Anglo-Mexican settlers in 1854, and has been a popular tourist destination for many years. Eagle Pass is a small city with a population of just over 2,000 people. It is home to several businesses and services, as well as a small park that features rifle range, pistol range, and target shooting galleries. The town was not always so peaceful. A feud between two Indian tribes led to the death of at least one settler in 1868. In 1895, an outbreak of flu caused large numbers of people to flee Eagle Pass for safety; however, this did not stop gun violence from spreading throughout the community. Rifle ranges were established in both Eagle Pass and nearby Midland in response to this problem; however, these facilities were short-lived and ceased operation by 1907. Gun purchases resumed shortly thereafter until finally ending around 1920 when Prohibition outlawed handguns in America. In recent years there have been several efforts made to revive gun targets history within Eagle Pass; however, these have all met with mixed success. A website set up specifically to promote firearm target shooting was established in 2002 but failed to gain any traction despite being advertised extensively throughout the town’s media outlets. In 2013 an effort was made to establish a museum dedicated solely to firearm target shooting within the city limits; however this also failed to gain much support from either local or national organizations despite receiving numerous donations from locals. Finally, an attempt was made in 2018 by some eagle pass residents to install antique firearms targets on display at their city hall; however this also failed miserably due largely due lack of funding and interest from both locals and visitors alike

In 1957, the town name was changed to honor General James Hogg (1836-1926) who served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for Hudspeth County from 1901-1911.

The post office was established in 1882, and the first store opened in 1886. Eagle Pass has been served by the Cameron County School District since 1907. The town was named after an eagle that nested near the community while colonists were exploring what is now central Cameron County in 1836. In 1861, Indian traders from New Mexico passed through Eagle Pass on their way to sell goods at Sam Houston’s fort at Huntsville. A road leading to Eagle Pass was built as part of this trade route. In 1902, when Interstate 10 became available through central Texas, Eagle Pass residents voted to join it. The population of the town had grown to about 100 people by 1930; however, it declined during World War II because of military activity around nearby Fort Sam Houston and other Texas installations. The post office closed in 1951 and the last resident left for good in 1957.
