Eagle Pass is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded by settlers in 1876 and named for John Egan, an early settler. Eagle Pass became a depot on the Chisholm Trail and later a railroad junction. In 1890 it became the county seat of Hudspeth County and remained so until 1907 when Austin took over that role. As a result of these changes, Eagle Pass lost its importance as both a commercial and cultural center while also suffering from economic decline in the late 19th century. The city of Austin absorbed Eagle Pass in 1970; however, much of what once characterized Eagle Pass remains unchanged today with only slight alterations to its appearance over time. However, aspects such as its strong ties to agriculture (particularly cattle) have been gradually replaced by new retail and service businesses that focus on tourism or other outdoor pursuits. Some original buildings still remain standing including the old courthouse which served as both courthouse and jail during cowboy days before being moved to its current location in 1902-3; also remaining is the schoolhouse which housed gradeschool-aged students until 1973 when it was replaced by an modern building; most recently added to the mix are several churches which serve as polling places for local elections each year. As one enters Eagle Pass they soon notice their surroundings had undergone significant alteration since their last visit: now filled with large shopping malls, restaurants, hotels and other tourist traps dotting every inch of this small community peripheral road known locally simply as "the Strip." These developments occurred simultaneously with dramatic reductions in rural residents' access to education due primarily to federal funding cuts following World War II; however even though many families lost their homes within sight of his former home base now known simply as "Eagle Pass," John Egan never gave up hope - he always envisioned his new community becoming not just another shopping destination but rather an educational hub for those who chose to stay put instead of moving away during those difficult times periodicals like "The Texan" labeled then "(Rural) Life" proclaimed then "(Migrant) Life" depicted today's eaglepassians nostalgically living laissez faire despite continued federal intervention into our economy development process creating today's harsh realities facing many older members of our community struggling daily with dwindling social assistance resources available few others have faced upon return visits throughout these past 50 years

This event marked the beginning of a period of instability and growth within Eagle Pass during which various industries endeavored to come unto the town. By 1914, however, EaglePass had become largely indistinguishable from other northern Hispanic communities statewide due to changes brought about by World War I and later economic conditions. However, some elements of local culture still persist today including traditional music performed at weddings and dances along with cowboy slang terms used throughout the community.
