Eagle Pass is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. Eagle Pass was founded in 1881 by parents of two American Civil War veterans, John P. and Anna Wertheimer. The town grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location at the crossroads of several wagon roads and railroads. In 1912, Eagle Pass became an incorporated municipality with a population of over 100 residents. During World War II, many businesses in Eaglepass were destroyed by the bombing raids conducted by the United States military on Dallas–Fort Worth Airport. The original Zion Trading Post was located on Second Street in Eagle Pass. In 1902, two brothers named Royer bought the Zion Trading Post and renamed it Indian Hills. They continued to run it until their death in 1922. Their son, Vernon Royer Jr., took over the business after they died and ran it until his own death in 1948. In 1951, the town of Eagle Pass was incorporated as a city under the name of Eagle Pass City. It remained an unincorporated community until its incorporation into municipality in 1959. In 1979, the city changed its name to Mesa de la Frontera because Mesa is Spanish for "border". When Spanish missionaries arrived in Hudspeth County in 1846 they found an area with high mountains and beautiful waterfalls available for settlement. They named the area Esperanza de las Flores ( Esperanza of Flowers). The first European to live here was José Antonio Lopez de Arce who built a cabin around 1790 AD. He married Guadalupe Ibarra de la Hoya y Ocampo which made him the founder of what is now known as Eagle Pass Village proper. Eagle Pass is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin/Round Rock metropolitan area. The first people to settle in Eagle Pass were the Comanches and their allies who fought against Spanish settlers in what is now Hudspeth County. In 1837, Jedediah Smith discovered an overland trail leading from the Mexican capital of Mexico City to Sacramento through Eagle Pass and named it after his home range - "the pass". The first post office at Eagle Pass was established in 1840. By 1853, most of Hudspeth County had been annexed by Austin and Eagle Pass became part of that city. A railroad reached Eagle Pass in 1881 and spurred development; today's economy relies largely on agriculture and ranching. In 2006, a group of citizens led by state Rep. Melissa Klein formed the “Eaglepass4 Texans” campaign to demand action from then-Gov.. Ann Richards on behalf of those living near Highway 6 which bisects town center; the bypass would run through town outskirts directly opposite residences without giving residents any say in how it would be built or who would own it. After years of pressure from Klein’s group as well as other interested parties including local businesses and property developers, eventually Richards vetoed the bill but not before its passage into law as House Bill 2236 – also known as “The Town Haul” bill because it featured graphic images depicting potential traffic impacts along I-10 should a bypass be built through town – making EaglePass one of just a few communities statewide where such Baker Act vetoes have taken place since 2011 (statewide vetoes typically only take place when there are significant negative public comments). Today much like when it was founded over 100 years ago, Eagle PASS continues to thrive thanks to its close knit community atmosphere combined with some amazing attributes such as high quality schools that are nationally accredited while still keeping open late for students due to flexible hours; easy access to shopping malls both within walking distance & down Interstate 10 minutes away; rich history including many interesting buildings dating back more than 100 years that can be explored on foot or bike if desired!
