Duncanville, Texas is a city in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1879 by General James Fenton as a small town on the I-35W bypass route between Austin and Dallas. Duncanville became an incorporated municipality in 1907 and annexed parts of Spring Branch in 1912. At the same time it detached from Spring Branch to become its own separate municipality with a population of 6,241 as of 2000. In 1960, Duncanville annexed most of unincorporated Tomball County including Pleasanton which had a population of 8,000 at that time. In 1984, both municipalities merged forming one new city with a population of 7,405 as of 2010
Duncanville is a small town located in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,523 at the 2010 census. Duncanville is part of the San Antonio–Bexar Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1836 by Scots-Irish settlers who named it for General John Duncan, an officer in the Mexican army who had helped suppress a rebellion against Mexican rule in 1825. By 1840, the town had a post office and two stores. In 1845, Duncanville became the seat of Hidalgo County after its creation from parts of Lamar and Frio counties. The county courthouse was built in 1862 and still stands today. As one of what was then rural Hidalgo County's only communities, Duncanville developed primarily as an agricultural center with cattle orcharding and cotton plantations being its mainstay economy until well into the 20th century.residential development began on both sides of Interstate 35 just south of present day Duncanville during the 1960s when developers decided to move into surrounding unincorporated areas for shopping and health services rather than build their own homes inside city limits. Today, much of what once constituted the rural core of Duncanville has been replaced by high-density housing developments catering tofdowntown San Antonio residents while much remaining farmland remains intact providing local subsistence farming operations with access to irrigation water via surface creeks that also provide drinking water for nearby businesses and residences
