Duncanville is a small town in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,620 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Duncanville is located on the banks of the Trinity River and its main industry is agriculture. The first settler in Duncanville was John Witherspoon in 1836. A post office was established in 1839, and by 1860 it had grown to include a store and two homes. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson Duncan who served as governor of Texas from 1837 to 1840 and as military commander during the Mexican War. In 1865, Duncanville became an independent municipality when it merged with nearby Richland to form Richardson Township (later Richland Borough). In 1870, Duncanville had a school house, five stores and seventy-five residents. By 1880 there were eight stores and one hundred residents; by 1890 there were eleven stores and two hundred residents. From 1895 until 1907, all but one of the businesses in town closed due to lack of customers or competition from other towns within Kaufman County that had larger populations. However, new businesses began to open up throughout the 1920s as farmers turned their attention towards production of agricultural products such as cotton, cornmeal, beans, rice and soybeans for export onto the global market. In 1933–1934 Commodore EO Jameson led an expedition downriver from Corpus Christi which called at various points alongthe Trinity River including at present day Duncanville before disembarking his flagship USS "Iowa" on December 5th at what would become known as “Old Mission Point” near what is now downtown Duncanvill

Duncanville was founded in 1868 by James Duncan and his wife, Martha. The town originally consisted of a few hundred people. By the end of the 20th century, Duncanville had grown to over 10,000 residents. The town is located in eastern McLennan County on the banks of the Buffalo Bayou. It is bordered by Tomball to the south, Eldorado to the east, Palestine to the north, and League City to the west. The population was estimated at 24,811 as of 2010. The first settlers in Duncanville were farmers who came from Virginia and Tennessee. They built small houses on what is now Main Street. In 1868, two brothers named John and Jesse started a store in Duncanville called J&J’s Store & Grain Exchange. The store was successful and soon other businesses followed suit. This growth led to problems for Duncanville because it lacked an appropriate school system for its growing population. In 1870, a group of men named commissioners gathered together to create a school district for Duncanville. They succeeded in getting money from state legislators and construction began on what would become Rice High School (later renamed McLennan County Junior High School). In 1878, General Edwin Ewell decided that McLennan County should be divided into two parts – oneortmently those living east of Liberty Avenue (in Tomball) would continue living there while those living west of Liberty Avenue would move into neighboring Eldorado Township (now part of League City). This decision led to some tension between East Livingston Parish residents and West Livingston Parish residents who felt they had been wronged by their neighbor’s decision-making process! To this day, there are still some issues unresolved about this particular decision made by General Ewell! In 1881, another large change happened in Duncanville when James Auld became mayor! Auld was an important figure in local politics due to his connections with both state legislators and business leaders. He helped develop much of what we know today about our community’s history – such as its early schools and churches! Aauld also served as president pro tempore for the Texas House of Representatives from 1951-1955 before he retired from public life after winning reelection in 1957! After serving as mayor for many years, Auld died at age 94 on November 21st, 1987

However, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, Duncanville experienced rapid growth and decline. In 1902, the town passed through several difficult times due to the Panic of 1907; however, it eventually recovered and became an important local economic center again in the 1910s. In 1940, Duncanville was struck by a large tornado that destroyed most of the town Center; however, despite this damage, the community bounced back quickly and regained its status as an important local economic center during World War II.
