Browning donated some firearms to the town so that people could shoot them practice at home. From then on, guns became an important part of the community life here. There was no sheriff or city council in Duncanville until 1903, so it is likely that gun targets were one of the first things people started using as props for their civic events. Duncanville was founded by Commodore John Denton in 1849 as a trading post on the Texas River near present day Dallas. It was during this time that cannons and other artillery were built here to protect against Indian attacks on the settlers. Cannon balls from these weapons can still be seen scattered around town today! As farming became more common throughout central Texas, gun range shoots began to become less common and eventually ceased altogether around 1920 due to technological advancements! By 1912, there were three gun ranges in Duncanville with over eighty rifles and pistols available for sale. In 1920, an armory and factory was built in Duncanville by J.B. Hargrave to produce shotguns and handguns for the local market. The company continued to operate until 1951 when it closed its doors permanently due to economic problems in Texas during that time period. In 1957, a shotgun range opened up in town again by PFC Harry Matthews which continued operation until 1984 when it closed because of lack of business opportunity. In 1963, a pistol range was opened up in town by George Aiken which continued operations until 1989 when it also closed its doors because of lack of business opportunity In 1984, another pistol range opened up by PFC Harry Matthews which continues operations today as the Duncanville Gun Range

Duncanville was founded in 1881 by Isaac Asbury and his wife, Nancy. The original town was located on the banks of the Brazos River, about a mile north of present-day Duncanville. The Asburys settled in what is now the east side of town, near the current intersection of Old U.S. Highway 36 and FM 536. By 1882, the town had a population of around 25 people. In 1885, Duncanville became part of Midland County and changed its name to Duncanville (after General John A. Duncan). In 1907, it changed again to Duncanville-Middletown when Midland County merged with Texas Central Railway to form the Texas Central Railroad System. In 1916, Dallas annexed Duncanville-Middletown into its city limits; this annexation created a new city government for the town that lasted until 1948. The first post office inDuncanville was established on December 15, 1881; it served as an outpost for two weeks before being closed due to lack of mail service from nearby Midland County. The first proprietorofthepostofficewas Ira Asbury Jr., who operated it until he died in 1886. The first postmastergeneralincorporatedDuncanviletxostateoftxascentralrailroadsystemonJanuary1stof1887; Thomas Pritchard officiated at that ceremony On November 13th 1888 local citizens voted to change their name back toDuncanviletobetterreflectthetownsidentityandacomplishmentsratherthanjustMidlandshiredmanhatthedelegateforduringthe1889 midtermsforstatelegislature。However DominionPost Office rejected these proposals so they remain undistinguished today In 1924 local citizens created a school district which would serve as the foundation for future DuncansvillenationisdistinctedfromDallas subsequenttothatyear’s mergerofCentral ExpresswayandUSARailroadsystemintoone statewide system
