Duncanville was founded by Scotsmen in 1853 as a post office and cattle ranch named "Travis". The name change to Duncanville in 1879 after Major General John A. Duncan, who served as military governor of Texas from 1879 to 1880. In 1911, the town had an estimated population of 350 people and was unincorporated. The community began to grow rapidly due to its location sandwiched between two major U.S.-Mexican border crossings: one on the east side of town and another on the west side. This made it a popular destination for immigrants seeking work or refuge from their home countries during the late 19th century and early 20th century periods of Mexican American history in Texas (the region now known as Southwest Texas). In 1916, Duncanville became one of only a few U.S.-registered towns located within Mexico's Baja California Peninsula when that state became independent from Mexico following its independence from Spain in 1912. Consequently, many residents continued to call themselves "Chihuahua" even though they were actually situated within Mexican territory (and not inside Mexico proper). As Duncanville grew more Recognized by Americans as an important crossroads for migrants heading northward into what is today Central America (particularly El Salvador), Mexicans began moving out of the community starting in earnest around 1970s due to increased job opportunities throughout most of North America instead of coming north because they could find work here only if they were lucky enough to immigrate through some other gateway such as Tijuana or Mexicali City; neither option offered good educational opportunities or stable housing once they arrived here outside those typically associated with larger cities like Dallas or Houston back then (although there have been recent efforts underway by some local officials to bring back some semblance of Mexican cultural values/ traditions into DuncanVILLE through various events such as Cultural Night celebrations).

The growth of agriculture gave way to other industries such as printing and shoe manufacturing during the late 19th century and early 20th century before dying out during World War II due to competition from new technologies such as automobiles and airplane development. After World War II, Duncanville experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Dallasites until suburbanization began throughout much of Dallas in the 1960s and 1970s while Duncanville stagnated economically despite its high quality schools system which continues to be rated "excellent" by most education analysts today
Duncanville was founded in 1851 by Duncan and his family. The town is named after General James H. Duncan, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The first store in the town was built near the junction of U.S. 71 and County Road 350. In 1857, Duncanville became a stop on the Texas Central Railroad. A post office was established in 1862, and a school was opened in 1865. In 1870, the town had a population of just under 100 people. By 1888, there were over 1,000 people living in Duncanville. During World War II, Duncanville was one of six Texas towns that accepted refugees from Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
