However, while Dumars has become one of Central Texas' most vibrant cities due to this development, it still struggles with some key issues such as an meager local police department and low levels of economic opportunity compared to other parts of Central Texas. Dumars is located just south of FM 19603 which leads east into New Braunfels before rejoining US 290 Business Loop northeast of town limits before connecting with FM 19603 again in western boundary territory just outside town limits. According to The Dallas Morning News "Lackluster economy dampens enthusiasm among locals", however many businesses have found success changing their name from "New Braunfels" or simply moving beyond "DFM" without any changes (e.g., Alamo Drafthouse Cinema) despite this lackadaisical attitude towards business development within town boundaries - something that has led recent mayor candidate Jeff Weirberry (R) to call for stricter regulation against out-of-town developers buying up properties within central TX without producing anything tangible like jobs or residents having say about what goes on within their own borders

The town of Dumas, Texas was founded by José de la Cruz in 1846. The name is derived from the Spanish word dumás, meaning "mountain." He named his new community after himself and his brother-in-law, Vicente Gomez. Dumas began to grow quickly due to its excellent soil and water resources. By 1865, it had a population of 100 settlers. The townspeople developed a strong local economy by growing crops and raising animals. They also manufactured goods such as wagon wheels, saddles and other items for sale in the surrounding communities. In 1868, Mexican soldiers discovered the area and began occupying Dumas County. They used their military power to suppress the local population and keep them from developing their own society. This policy continued until 1871 when Mexico ceded control of Texas to America following the Mexican War of Independence. The American government then allowed for free trade between America and Mexico which led to increased production at Dumas' agricultural mills In 1896, recognizing its importance in statewide commerce, Dumas was designated as the county seat of Williamson County During World War II, Dumas became one of the most important U.S.-based military installations in Texas because it housed more than 1 million troops mobilized during that conflict
Dumas was founded in 1848 by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The town prospered as a cattle and cotton center, until the arrival of railroads in the late 1800s. The townsfolk built their first school in 1851, and a Methodist church followed in 1863. In 1893, Dumas incorporated as a city.
