Dumas, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. According to the 2010 US Census, Dumas has a total area of , of which is land and (1.2%) is water. The town was founded in 1879 by Scotsman Alexander McGee and his wife Eliza Jane McKay on a tract of land granted to them by President James K. Polk in 1876 for their ranch near present-day Kerrville. TheMcKays were followed by other families who arrived during the 1880s and 1890s, including those from Scotland's Ayrshirehire county. In 1907 McEnery bought 1/4 acre (0.22 km²) of what would later become Dumas from John Haggerty for $10 per acre ($ in 2018 terms). According to the 2000 census, there were 5,621 people living in Dumas as of 2000: 4,955 men and 1 woman; 3 children under age 18; 2 adults over 64 years old; and 853 residents who were 65 years or older. The population density was 614 people per square mile (240/km²). There are only two schools within one mile (1 km) of Dumas - Barnes Elementary School serving grades kindergarten through eighth grade and First Baptist Church serving grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade - with no high school or middle school available for students residing within one mile (1 km). As of 2005 there was only one business open at night - an convenience store - employed six employees full time with no room for expansion because there are no more businesses that can open up and take advantage of Dumas' limited development potential due to its undeveloped geography and lack thereof infrastructure such as streets or schools that could house additional students

Dumas was founded in 1879 by Arthur Dumas and his wife, Lillie. The Dumass Ranch stretched from the present day town of Dumas to the north and east, while the original family home still stands today as a museum. The ranch played an important role in Texas history, both during its early years and later when it became part of the United States. In 1881, Arthur Dumass discovered oil on Long Prairie which would later become known as Midland Oilfield. This discovery led to development of the area around Dumas, including the founding of Midland City in 1909. Midland City was named after Arthur Dumais' father-in-law, John W. Midland. The town of Dumas was founded on October 15th, 1881 by Amedeeo César Pico and his wife Isabelle Lafittez with backing from millionaire George Giddings Sr.. Pico had been a Mexican immigrant who had arrived in Texas in 1868 and is considered to be one of its earliest settlers. He started trading goods and services along Utopia Creek near what is now downtown Midland City before moving his business further downriver into what is now East Midland County. It wasn't until much later that Pico met Lillie de la Renta who moved toTexas from New York with her sister Louise to start a new life as a settler called La Renda on August 29th, 1870 at Adobe Plantation just south of Houston’s current border with Galveston County (now Houston Heights). At first they raised cotton but soon began producing corn for local markets too; this process helped produce enough food for their growing population which numbers over 5200 at its peak in 1901! By 1899 Lillie had already lost interest in living on her own so she joined her sister Louise back at Adobe Plantation where they continued farming together until their death some 25 years later on July 3rd, 1932 aged 92! In 1902 however following census returns that showed there were now over 10,000 people living within 5 miles (8 km) of DumASP!, Mayor Hinson submitted plans for incorporation to the local board but these never came to fruition due largely to opposition from cattle ranchers who saw incorporation as another way for them to increase their power over society! However despite these obstacles annexation did occur on January 24th 1907 through Act No 627 by Governor Malcolm MacLeod! After incorporation many businesses opened up including barbershops/beauty parlors; coffee shops; hotels; banks; stores selling groceries etc.; all while midlanders struggled trying keep up with rapidly expandingHouston! Unfortunately within 3 decades most everything had closed up or left except for a few small businesses which kept going thanks largely to support from residents like Mrs Hinson herself!! Despite this success many residents drifted away during the 1920s looking for better opportunities elsewhere such as Dallas or Wichita Falls where wages were much higher than hereabouts

The Mexicans were defeated, driving them back into Mexico. In 1845, Texas was acquired by the United States as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
