Dumas, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 2,624 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. Dumas is named after General Lafayette and was founded in 1836 by his brother-in-law Colonel James Wilkinson. The first post office in Dumas was established in 1839. The village of Dumasa was founded about two miles south of Dumas on the banks of the Brazos River. In 1840, a Methodist church and school were built near present day Highway 281/Texas State Route 453. On July 6, 1845, a store and hotel were built at what is now called Main Street and Loop Road (later US 287) east of downtown Dumasa for $5 per capita from John Wickersham Jr., proprietor of Wickersham & Company stage coach depot which served as transportation for the local farmers and travelers overland to San Antonio on their way to Santa Anna’s forces fighting against Mexican independence under General José Joaquín de Arista. In 1860, Fort Worth became the new capital of Texas under Republic Act 1040 passed by President Andrew Johnson following his election as president on November 3rd that year. The citizens of Hudspeth County voted to secede from Texas on December 15th due to their dissatisfaction with Johnson’s handling of the state’s affairs including plans for an oil pipeline through their county that would have headed directly into Fort Worth rather than through Austin or Travis County where they reside The townsfolk elected Jens Ludwig (1838-1920), one time mayor of nearby Abilene as their representative to serve out the remainder of Johnson’s term until January 3rd 1865 when he resigned because he could no longer stand living among all those “eking apathy towards anything beyond themselves[.]” A short time later another representative was elected but resigned too early in order to take careof family responsibilities back home in Abilene Ludwig again served as congressman from 1865-1868 before leaving Congress to become judge on the First Judicial District Court He then moved back east where he died in 1920 while still serving on that court . He remains buried there along with many other Texans who made it big during this era such as Sam Rayburn (the Speaker pro tempore from 1923 until 1933), Lyndon B Johnson (the 35th president Ulysses S Grant went onto become), Robert E Lee (the general who commanded Confederate forces during World War II) and others After his death several members gathered around his grave restoring some parts if not all original tombstones within 5 years or so . This process began like most things hereabouts when one man decided it was worth doing something different after watching others do nothing

Dumas, Texas is a small town in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Dumas was founded in 1836 by Captain John Swayze and his wife Anna Maria. The first post office was established in Dumas on October 17, 1836. Dumas is named after Alexandre Dumas and his father Pierre Dorion Dumas. In 1892, Captain John Swayze donated land to build a school and also provide acreage for a sawmill on which he operated until his death in 1928. Mrs. Swayze continued to operate the mill until her death in 1946; it still stands today as the only operational sawmill in Potter County and one of only two remaining commercial mills statewide (the other being Midland Mills). The present day town of Dumas was founded after Major General William Tecumseh Sherman's March from Atlanta through Georgia on April 14–17, 1865 during the American Civil War. Sherman's march across country affected all sides with large numbers of soldiers and civilians moving into new areas including what would become Dumars located east of Sherman's original route southwest of Fort Worth (now Arlington Heights). Aftermath of war led to many families relocation within the state including those from what would become these towns: Pflugerville to Arlington Heights, Mount Pleasant to WestDallas/Dumars (now Lewisville), Clearwater to Houston, Farmington Hills to Farmington Springs (now Flower Mound), Rusk to Beech Creek (now Wichita Falls) and so on until Sherman's route had been traveled all but crossroads between East Texans living near Atlanta while settlers west of Red River Valley were relocated due primarily to economic reasons such as friendship or trade links with eastern states
The town of Dumas, Texas was founded in 1854 by David Beaumont and family. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Santa Fe Trail, and soon had a population of over 200 people. In 1876, the railroad arrived in Dumas and quickly began operating. This caused a significant decrease in the population as people moved away from the town for jobs on the railroad. However, following World War II, Dumas began to grow again as new businesses opened up and more people returned to the town. Today, Dumas is a thriving community with a population of over 900 people.
