However, the most common changes made to this firearm were alterations to its frame/handguns receiver assembly which gave it an overall length of 6 feet 2 inches while also increasing its overall weight from 2 pounds 11 ounces to 3 pounds 4 ounces. The Dumas Gunsmith Shop is a gunsmith business that has been in business since the 1860s. The shop was founded by John and Jane Dumas, who were both gunsmiths. The shop was first located at 4th and Elm Streets in Dumas, but it moved to its current location in 1911. John Dumas died in 1916, but Jane continued to run the business until her death in 1951. The shop went out of business after World War II, but it was revived in the 1970s by Bob Burgoyne. In 1976, the shop moved to its current location on Commerce Street in Dumas.
In 1836, José de la Hoya y Costilla, a Mexican general and politician, founded the town of Dumas in what is now Angelina County, Texas. La Hoya named it after his father-in-law, Don Gabriel Xavier de Dumas y Montesinos. The town was first populated by Anglo settlers from New Mexico Territory. By 1840, the population had grown to about 350 people and it began to grow again when Mexican citizen Manuel Micheletto founded the city of Muleshoe in Angelina County in 1849. In 1856, the United States acquired Texas from Mexico and the name of Dumas changed to Dallas. The city's current name was given to it by Mayor Ralph Bunche after he toured it in 1951. Dumas is located on a bend in Angelina County upstream from Interstate 30 and east of Fort Worth. It has a total area of , making it one of the most populous cities withinAngelinaCountyandoneofthemostpopulouscitiesinTexas。It Reached 20th century peak population between 1910-1920 with over 100% growth rate; however today’s population stands at around 3500 residents In 1860 there were only 10 families living here; today there are more than 1,000 family homes The City grew rapidly due to its location on an I-30 bypass just outside Fort Worth; however this growth stopped abruptly around 1960 when transportation became available through Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

Dumas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas, located about 20 miles east of downtown Austin on I-35W. The population was 559 at the 2010 census. Dumas is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1836, Pierre LaFayette Lamar, an American Revolutionary War veteran and cattleman from Louisiana, founded what would become Dumas as a rancho (ranch). In 1873, Lamar donated land to the city of Austin for use as a public square. The town's name originated with José Dumas y Valdés, who purchased 3 acres (1 km²) in 1876 from Aimee Carrington and moved his family to Dumas that year. The Potts family ran the first store in Dumas in 1899 and Sibley’s grocery store followed suit in 1901. The only post office in Dumas opened on December 15, 1905; it closed circa 1912 due to low mail volume. Dumas experienced its heyday during World War II when over 30% of all manufacturing jobs were associated with munitions production within 10 miles of town limits.. However following World War II Dumassians began moving away from industry towards larger towns such as Round Rock and Georgetown due to relatively good housing prices and increased access to education opportunities outside their hometown
