In the early years of its development, Donna was known as a stop on the stagecoach route from Wichita Falls to Fort Worth. The first post office in Donna was established in 1881. The first store opened in 1886. By 1900, the population had grown to 1,500 residents. The community experienced some growth during World War II when the United States military built several schools and other facilities in and around the community. During the 1990s and2000s, Donna underwent various redevelopment programs that included new shopping centers, residential developments, a primary school and two churches. As part of these projects, many businesses were closed down or converted into apartments or condos; however, it has also been reported that some businesses have reopened since then. Donna is located within Hood County's eastern border on Interstate 10 east of Wichita Falls and its northern border on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard east of Fort Worth. It falls within Montague County's eastern boundary on I-10 north of Wichita Falls while portions of Hood County are within Montague County's western boundary on I-10 south of Fort Worth

He built a cabin on what is now west side of US-183. His cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Donna. In 1905, when two other communities merged to form Midland County, residents of Donna voted to adopt the new county name and incorporate as a town. The new municipality had an estimated population of 100 people at its founding. Donna's founders were determined to make their community one that would be proud to call home. They set out to build a downtown plaza and erected a school building which they named after themselves – Mrs. J A Billington Elementary School (now Driggs Middle School). They also bought land east of US-183 and began construction on what would later become Donnas Park – America's first municipally owned park! In addition to their civic duties, the founders decided it was important for their townspeople to have some semblance of order so they constructed courtrooms and jail cells (which are still standing today). They also built streets and public buildings such as libraries and post offices while expanding access to local water supplies and improving sanitation practices! Today, Donna remains an active community with businesses located throughout its central business district including several banks, four churches (two Baptist/ Methodist), three health clinics (including one run by Planned Parenthood), two restaurants/bars/cafés, an ice cream parlor/Cemetery & Funeral Home combo store fronting IH 45 South - all within walking distance of one another! And don't forget about its namesake restaurant! Mrs J A Billington has been serving up great food since 1907!!!
