The history of Donna begins with settlers arriving during the early 1800s looking for new opportunities in what would become Kleinberg County Parish (later Kleberg County). Many arrived through wagon trains traveling up I-10 from Houston or Corpus Christi to find suitable land around Polk Hills Creek that would allow them to grow crops and raise livestock while enjoying some degree of privacy from their Indian neighbors across Brazos River Valley south of present day Wichita Falls though they were still considered trespassers by both groups due to their location adjacent to Indian Territory at that time (see map below). Settlers found fertile ground around Polk Hills Creek due to drainage problems caused by several large rivers flowing through this area including Spring Branch created by all five forks of Big Clearwater flowing northeastward into Arkansas northward outfitting travelers heading east along I-10 joining newly discovered Greenvilleigt Prairie just before crossing into Texas about 1845 near present day Midway City) . This area lay between present day Wichita Falls - now part of Fort Worth -and Donelson - now Burkburnett -northwest corner then concurrent with present day Longview east side extending into present day Midway City making it ideal for agriculture with good access to water resources."
