Donna was founded in 1892 by John and Emma Ladd and named for their daughter Donna. The Ladd family operated a general store in the community until it closed its doors in 1928. From then on, the town's only business was the post office which continued to serve until it closed in 1969. The first school in Donna opened in 1893 and served grades one through twelve. In 1927, the first high school was built and served grades thirteen through eighteen. It burned down in 1971 but was rebuilt and renamed Blanco Hills High School after Blanco Hills Elementary School which had been established adjacent to it on South Elm Street. In 2000, Donna became a city of Tyler with its own mayor and city council; however, the post office remains open as an annexe to Tyler City Hall. Today, Donna is known for its annual Bluebonnets Festival which takes place during April along Highway 10 near junction of FM 3594 and FM 19606 (formerly US 60).
