Donna, Texas is a small town located in the border of McAllen and Reynosa, Mexico. The town was founded in 1881 by Jesse James Forrest and his family. The first gun store in the area was opened by Forrest in 1885. In 1934, the first handgun magazine was opened in Donna. The magazine still exists today and sells guns, ammo, and knives. In 2018, the Donna Chamber of Commerce honored 100 years of gun mags history with a plaque recognizing their contributions to the community.

Donna, Texas is a town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 9,845 at the 2010 census. Donna was founded by my great-grandfather in 1867 and named for his wife, Donna Brazos County Judge David J. Dixon. The townsite was settled on the banks of the Brazos River by settlers from Illinois in 1867. In 1870, James Wickersham donated land to build a cotton gin and mill on the site of what is now Donna's Main Street. This early development of the town helped establish its reputation as a manufacturing center during the late 19th century and into the early 20th century. During World War II, Donna became an important airbase for USAF planes flying out of Fort Worth Army Air Field (Fort Worth AF). From 1945 until 1949, it also served as an interim base for Harris Aircraft Corporation bombers flown missions over Japan during that conflict. Afterward, Fort Worth AFB became home to US Marine Corps helicopters conducting operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2001-2006; however, helicopter operations have since been discontinued at Fort Worth AFB due to budget constraints within DoD). In 2013, Donnas Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Dallas County, Texas with a nomination from Preservation Houston Incorporated. The district covers areas dating back to 1840s when cattle were used as our primary source of food and fiber while ranching operated near present day Donna proper along with parts of Garland and Richardson counties adjacent thereto The area contains many contributing buildings including: a courthouse built c 1830; three churches (1850s); two gristmills (c 1840s); several residences (19th century), including one pre-Union residence which still stands (); four schools (1890s thru 1930s): one schoolhouse (1890); two frame churches completed circa 1910-(1930) which are joined together as one--one being designated NRHP; three 1915 additions: A general store/ Female dormitory/ Fuel storage room addition(1915), A ladies restroom addition(1920), A Craftsman Bungalow addition(1925)--all NRHP; six farmstead dwellings also included: five residences constructed before 1920 but not NRHP; one pre-statehood residence dating back to 1881 that is still standing.; more than eighty objects comprising significant architecture or items associated with local history are found inside or outsideNRHP
