Roosevelt visited East Texas he stopped at The Post Office on November 17th 1941 while en route to Austin He ordered then-Governor James Kenedy to rename it White Sands after New Mexico's San Miguel Hill Ranch about 25 miles east of Wichita Falls because that hill was known as "the fortuitous meeting place between Santa Anna and Ulysses S Grant." After much discussion an agreement was reached whereby General Sam Houston donated 2 million acres south of Houston to be divided equally between White Sands Community College District No 1 (now Baylor University) which would include Donnasipal school district; White Sands Institute; Longview Independent School District No 1; Consolidated Independent School District No 2; Rusk County Industrial Park Authority; Brazoria County Industrial Park Authority; Jasper County Industrial Park Authority With Humble Service Company becoming majority owner thereof In 1965 when Donnasipal Consolidated Independent School District #2 merged with Longview Isolda Elementary SchoolDistrict #1 into one school district it remained formalized as Donnasipal Consolidated Independent School District #2 but with our current name since we are part ofCollin County government We appreciate your support
