In 1898, when Donnaught Valley was surveyed, residents selected it as their new name for their new town. Donna is one of only a handful of towns in Texas to have both an old-time cotton gin and a modern day printing press. The Goss Printing Press Opened its Doors on Main Street on October 1st 1895 and published its first issue from presses made by Charles Goss and his brother Amos Goss (1810-1892). The presses were removed from use around 1920 because of the high cost of maintaining them; however, they are still preserved at the Arlington County Museum of History and Art. The current town hall was built in 1907 following a request from founder Jno Hays. It replaced an earlier building which had been destroyed by fire years earlier. For many years, Donna's post office operated out of a barn on Old Elm Road between Third Street and Fourth Street; however, this building has since been demolished and replaced with a more recent structure downtown. In 1904, construction began on what would become the largest dam ever constructed in Texas - Lake Duncan Dam - which would provide water for local farmers and industry as well as serve as a storage reservoir for future storms such as Hurricane Ike. The dam also helped create Donnybrook Park which now contains several hundred acres of lakeshoreland park adjacent to Interstate 20/Upton Rd., just south of downtown Donnautown Plaza Shopping Center across from Trinity United Methodist Church on Preston Road.
