It was run by J C White and his son John C White Jr., both natives of New York City and residents of Dickinson for many years until their death in 1984. Other early business owners include W H Bechtel (1904), M A Brown (1907), F G Neuman (1909), E L Day (1920), and P J McNaughtie (1924). In 1923, a post office called "Humble" became operational due to limited mail service available through Livingston County because of the severe drought conditions affecting much of Texas at that time. This post office closed on December 15th 1924 after serving less than two months due to lack of mail traffic statewide during that difficult period for postal service! On January 1st 1925vdickinson consolidated with Carthage Township forming one municipality with a populationof 2191 people! At this point it should be noted that there were only three stores/post Offices operating within our Municipality- all located within our limits! One can only imagine what must have been going through those local businesses during these times ! A new school building was completed adjacent to First Baptist Church in 1928 and served as the town's public school until it burned down in 1966! After the fire, plans were made to build a new school but never materialized! Today you can find remnants of this old schoolhouse still standing just outside your door !!!!! In 1970 another new school building replaced the original one which had failed following several arson attempts over time !! On September 30th 1974 - 35 years ago - Dickinson’s last regular high school graduation took place!!
