Dickinson, Texas is a small town located in the Hudspeth County seat of Dickinson. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Dickinson, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Dickinson community began as a post office in 1872. The name comes from General James Dickinson who fought in the Mexican-American War and also served as U.S. Minister to Mexico City. In 1881, Dickinson was incorporated as a town with a population of about 100 people. At that time it was one of several towns in Hudspeth County that were formed from parts of other counties when Hudspeth County was created from portions of Archer, Jacksboro and Tyler counties on March 30, 1861. In 1907, Progress Coal Company opened its mines here and for many years it was the most important coal mine in the area because it produced high grades of coal for export to Europe and China . The company closed its mines in 1969 but left an enduring legacy with three buildings still standing on the site: the old locomotive shop (now used as a museum), Progress Superintendent's House ( demolished 2006) and Payday Store (demolished 2009). These buildings are significant evidence that this once-thriving mining community lasted until very recently

Dickinson, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Dickinson was founded in 1876 by John Dickinson and his wife Sarah. The Dickinson Manufacturing Company was founded in 1898 and manufactured farm equipment. In 1926, the company became known as the Dickinson-Marquette Machine Co., Inc., until it merged with International Harvester to form International Harvester Corporation in 1978. In 1984, Dickinson-Marquette was renamed as Westinghouse Electric Corporation's Dickinson Division before being sold to Union Pacific Railroad for $2 billion on October 17, 2008. The first settlers of what would become Dickinson were John Dickinson and his wife Sarah who emigrated from England in 1836. They arrived at the mouth of the Red River where they built a cabin and started farming their land which they named "Dickinson." The first post office opened in 1879 and continued operation until 1907 when it closed due to lack of customers. A new post office opened in 1909 and continued operation until 1951 when it closed again due to low mail volume. There were only four residents living within one mile of each other when the town began but by 1912 there were over 100 residents within one mile of each other making it an important center for trade along with controlling access to water resources essential for agriculture such as wells and reservoirs located near nearby Wichita Falls (now Wichita). The commercial airport that now sits just outside of town was first established at Tellico Air Force Base where planes could be refueled prior to their flights into Dallas-Fort Worth Airport which had been built two miles away during World War II as an Army airfield used by Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers from Wright Field northeast of downtown Dallas while Fort Worth Municipal Airport served general aviation operations primarily serving areas east of Dallas including Richardson (now Arlington) then Hitchcock (later Irving) before becoming open for commercial use after Cedar Point amusement park opened adjacent to it on September 12, 1949 completion followed suit less than a year later on October 20th following purchase by Republic Airways which operated regional jets out of Love Field Airport south suburbanDallas concurrent with Air Traffic Service providing single codes service between Love Field then Terminal 2/3 building continuing until July 1975 KOAA while base designation reverted back to Ft Worth Municipal Airport effective August 15th following closure of TXAR Aeronautical Laboratory KOAF effective December 15th all services being combined under new name - "Airport TX" effective January 30th 1971 finally expiration date March 15th 1974 resulted in separation hangar & runway functions coming under jurisdiction Of Dallas Metropolitan Area consisting today Of GreaterDallas Airports Authority sixth largest peacetime employer within city limits employing over 14000 employees ranking third most comprehensive airport system performing beyond US performance levels One early resident who played an important role in developing this community was Charles Waring who came from Ipswich Massachusetts about 1840s he left home young went west many times playing lumberjacks fur traders etc etc returned East1860s Settled Here
Dickinson was founded in 1847 by John Dickinson. The town was named after the then-university president, James K. Polk. The population of Dickinson peaked at 10,000 in 1881, but has since dwindled to around 1,500 residents.
