Dickinson is home to two high schools: Booker T Washington High School and Hardin Independent School District #1 Academy (formerly HISD #1). There are also several smaller private schools within easy access including Butler Elementary School (just outside the city limits), Wood Dale Intermediate School (just east of town), Springdale Elementary School (northwest of town), Westwood Elementary School (southwest of town), Junior/Senior High Schools Elkridge Consolidated Independent school district #2A - Stone Ridge Middle/High school - White Sands Intermediate/Junior High school There are also several churches located within easy reach including First Baptist Church which serves as both interior designating services for many homes within central business district boundaries

On July 1st 1916 local physician John Southerland donated land east of downtown to serve as a medical clinic which later became University Hospitals Dallas . By 1920 there were over 100 businesses operating out of downtown including eighteen saloons . mayor Stanley Mowery served two terms ending December 31st 1923 when he was succeeded by Jock Mahoney According to The City Directory for 1930 published by Richardson's office: "Dickinson had 4 churches; Baptist (Missionary Baptist Church), Methodist Episcopal (Methodist Episcopal Church South), Presbyterian (Church of Scotland) & Roman Catholic... Two dozen residences... A post office operated from October 1st 1889 until May 6th 1925." At that time there were also six stores & two restaurants with 30 employees located inside or adjacent to downtown business areas such as First National Bank building & Walker Drug Store
