Dickinson, Texas is an agricultural town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. The townsite was founded by pioneers in 1881 and named after Lydia Dickinson, the wife of James W. Dickinson and mother of John Wesley Dickinson. Dickinson's post office operated from 1883 to 1907 and again from 1913 to 1917. The first store in town opened in 1883 on Main Street by Charles Capps as a grocery store with a small inventory and six customers. In 1886, Lula Boggs opened a dry goods store on High Street next door to her father's grocery store. By 1890, there were five stores in town with a total of $5,000 in sales. That year, several residents raised money for the construction of a schoolhouse which served as the first public school in Dickinson Township. One hundred dollars was raised for that purpose and local citizens built the structure at what is now First Avenue and Elm Street on July 6th 1893- only one day before classes began! Classes started September 3rd that same year! A blacksmith shop also operated from 1892-1896 inside what is now First Avenue building; it closed when he married into the business family! In 1902-1903 Mabel Storey ran a dairymaid service out of her home which provided milk for local farmers during those years while also serving as their social center; it reopened as a full service women's clothing emporium after prohibition repealed! In 1909 they moved their doors to 913 Saginaw St., which later became known as Twain Road because William Hays Twain bought it in 1922! Mrs Storey died suddenly there less than two months later – just days after opening her new locale! In 1916 Franklinand Lois Hall operate an ice cream parlor out of their home until 1921 when Prohibition made this type of business illegal again so they closed up shop forever but left behind many fond memories including various photo exhibits throughouttown over time @ website
