After Father Miguel’s death his son Juan Bautista Hidalgo dedicated himself to religious work among the Indian population living around mission until his death in 1860 when he was only 54 years old . In 1840 Eliza Ayerbe started marketing fresh eggs at her grocery store/laboratory on Main Street northwest of present day Desoto when she met William Pemberton who would become her husband later that year while working at Pemberton & Houston Cotton Mills located just south of downtown Houston across an alley between Second and Third Streets NW which later became Kingwood Drive today .
