In the early 1900s, Desoto, Texas was a small town that was known for itsWeapons Manufacturing Plants. The town's first Weapon Manufacturing Plant was established in 1907 and it produced machineguns and artillery cannons. The plant continued to produce weapons until the late 1940s. During the 1940s, Desoto also became famous for its design of a Laser Sight which allowed shooters to hit targets at long range with ease. In the 1970s, Desoto's Weapon Manufacturing Plant closed down and most of the town's resident were forced to leave because of lack of job opportunities. However, some local residents decided to keep their old businesses open and started manufacturing lasersights again in the 1980s. By 1990, all of Desoto's Weapon Manufacturing Plants had closed down and most of its residents had left for good. However, a few local residents who still lived in the town decided to keep their businesses open and continue manufacturing lasersights until they finally went out of business in 2001. Today, laser sights are still being manufactured in Desoto by some locals who have kept alive their tradition of making these unique devices which allow shooters to hit targets at long range with ease.

Desoto is a city in Kaufman County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,038 at the 2010 census. The area of Desoto was 8,959 square miles (23,651 km2). The Desoto River and its tributaries flow through the city. The first European to set foot in what is now Desoto was Juan de la Hoz on July 13, 1692. Spanish explorer Gabriel García Márquez named it after his father's home province of Burgos, Spain. A year later on September 3rd of that year Antonio de Ibarra explored this region from Brazoria County and named it "Desoto" for the river that he saw there. In 1836 Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna began construction of the Alamo Road which linked San Antonio with Austin and eventually Mexico City. When Mexico lost its independence to America in 1848, Anglo-American settlers started moving into this area as part of the Compromise of 1846 which ended the Mexican– American War. By 1850 about one-fourth of Desoto's population were Anglo Americans while only 10 percent Mexican Americans lived here; over two centuries later much majority still withheld their allegiance to either country due to both economic reasons and cultural ties To a very small percentage were active members or sympathizers with insurgents during all three phases Boston Tea Party: December 1773- April 1774
The Desoto region of Texas was first settled by the Arapaho and Pawnee in the late 18th century. The area now includes much of east-central Texas, parts of northwestern Mexico, and part of central Oklahoma. The people who lived here were descendants of the Wichita and other Plains Indians. In 1845, cattle drives started up the Rio Grande from Mexico City to Abilene, Kansas; this drove manyof the Native Americans out of their land.
