Desoto is a town in west Texas, United States. The population was 2,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo/Edinburg micropolitan area. The Desoto Coal and Coke Company Railroad serves as a mainstay of local industry. In 1836, José María de la Garza founded what would become Desoto after purchasing 3,000 acres (1 km²) of land around present-day Desoto from the Shaddack family. La Garza named his new community Esperanza to honor Spanish heroine Maria Esperanza y Valdés who had fought for Mexico against France in the Mexican–American War. After years of growth and development, Esperanza became an important railroad junction and town center in west Texas during the late 19th century. The first school in Esperanza opened its doors on February 6, 1861 under direction of Mrs. Fenton with eleven students receiving instruction from Alder Masons from Corsicana teaching their children how to read and write Texan English at that time which was rudimentary at best due to lack of resources at that time! Even though this early elementary school was only temporary it helped spur on future educational developments such as Stonington Elementary School which opened in 1906 according to plans by then Superintendent James Wickersham and today still flourishes thanks to state funding! During World War II many people worked for Boeing Aircraft Company located near Wichita Falls but many residents chose not to fight because they could have returned home soon after started their tour and there were no jobs available back East; some also decided not travel out West because they felt unsafe living on a frontier town during wartime times while other locals took up arms or volunteered if needed! A few examples include: Mr John Thomas who worked nights doing odd jobs for several different companies until he got sick one night when all hell broke loose over Iwo Jima; his co-worker’s daughter Emelia stayed behind with her mother working odd hours like everyone else until she turned eighteen weeks pregnant then she registered herself with the Selective Service like every other citizen so her dad could get drafted too!! American citizens were forced into military service during WW2 unlike our current political system where you can choose not serve based on your beliefs today but back then it was something you had to do or be executed!!! ;-)

Despite all of this progress, gunfire still isn't always easy or accurate enough for people who are distance away from their target. That's why gun sights came into play during wartime: They allow shooters to line up their shots much closer so they can hit their target with greater precision and accuracy than ever before possible.

Desoto, Texas is a small town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 3,392 at the 2010 census, up from 2,994 in 2000. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is near The University of Texas at Austin. The original name for the town was "Granbury". The community was founded by Anglo-Mexican immigrants in 1856 as a ranching and farming center on the banks of the Brazos River. By 1880, Desoto had grown to over 1,000 residents and prospered as a cottonseed oil processing center and shipping point for goods coming downriver from Mexico City. In 1908, Desoto became an independent municipality with its own government and school district. In 1927, Desoto's railroad station was destroyed by fire but was rebuilt quickly with help from local businesses and citizens. In 1935 it became one of several towns within Dallas-Fort Worth to be annexed into that city following its annexation by Dallas County. During World War II, Desoto played a major role in supplying arms to theTexan army effort against Nazi Germany; both desalination plants operated here during that time period (the first such plant in Texas). After the war ended, many factories closed but Desoto continued to prosper thanks to new development including shopping malls (including one built on Main Street), professional sports teams (including football's Cowboys) and an expanding education sector which has included several universities within walking distance of town limits since 1990s: UT Austin/Texas A&M University; Baylor University; Rice University; Trinity College Dublin/ Ireland’s second largest university; US Southwest Airlines’ headquarters complex adjacent to Terminal 4 at George Bush Intercontinental Airport; Stonestreet Mall which opened in 2002 adjacent to US Airways Center/Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport - all this while remaining largely rural until recent years when suburban sprawl began creeping into what used once been agricultural land scattered around downtown core: today most people identify themselves simply as "Desotos."
