In the early 1800s, Desoto, Texas was a small town located in what is now Midland County. The area now known as Desoto was initially inhabited by the Wichita people. The Wichita were primarily hunters and gatherers, but they also collected scrap metal and other materials for trade purposes. During the 1800s, there were many conflicts between Native Americans and European settlers in what is now Midland County. One of the most famous disputes between Native Americans and Europeans occurred at Fort Worth in 1837. At that time, Native American Chief Red Cloud led a group of warriors against European colonists. The battle resulted in several fatalities on both sides. Shortly thereafter, Congress passed the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which forced many Cherokee Indians to leave their homes in Georgia and Tennessee for northern Mexico. Many Cherokees died during the journey northward. In 1839, General Sam Houston occupied Fort Worth and began planning to remove all of the Cherokee from Texas. More than 1,500 Cherokee perished during the process of relocation. Gun protection history in Desoto started relatively late compared to other communities within Texas or across America. Gun violence had been common throughout much of North America beforehentry became more prevalent during this period of social transformation leading up to World War II when Europeans settled down permanently in Southern California (which included parts of present-dayDesoto). In 1902, school trustees voted to arm all students in the city and it remained that way until 1957 when compulsory gun registration began in Texas. On October 15, 1911, an attempt was made on Mayor A.J. Nichols’ life by two gunmen who shot him at close range as he walked from his home to bring water to his daughter in Central Park before classes began at Desoto High School; however no one was injured during this attack or since then other attempted threats against Mayor Nichols have been unsuccessful until now. The next year on November 7th 1912 three gunmen entered City Hall where Mayor Nichols had been meeting with members of the State Board of Education about increasing student enrollment within City limits; however only one gunman got through security gates and assassinated Mayor Nichols while he sat behind his desk inside City Hall while others took hostages outside before leaving via car ride back into town successfully avoiding capture alive despite several gunshots being fired at them including one that hit one of their attackers just above his heart which is still unexplained today despite multiple attempts by police to solve it On January 4th 1914 four gunmen stormed into Central Park during lunchtime after unsuccessfully attempting to extort money from children playing there with candy bars worth $5 each from sixty-six-year old Mrs Gertrude Flowers (featured below) one elderly woman who offered no resistance or provocation and not a single adult bystander intervened or stopped what appeared to be an organized crime spree resulting in four dead adults (Mrs Flowers remains unidentified although her photograph can be found online) local businesses were closed for days as word spread throughout town about what had happened including major grocery store owner J Humble who went out front open carrying groceries sacks full of cash trying unsuccessfully to get away with whatever goods were inside when shots rang out wounding him fatally along with three customers inside grocer Wm Fenton also caught up in gunfire takingCover but fortunately not hit thereby remaining unharmed even though two shotgunsfired successively at him hitting him square betweenthe shoulder blades killing him instantly ; prior fatal shootings occurred within minutes preceding doors opening allowing shooters past without incident . It has been theorized that Mrs Flowers may have known something about these attacks because she had recently purchased a revolver permit which would have allowed her more access to firearms . There are currently no suspects connected with this shooting
Desoto, Texas is a small town in the county of Medina, located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 2,569 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro Area. The first Europeans to visit Desoto were Spanish missionaries in 1807 and they named it "Aguas Blancas". The name means "White Waters" because there were clear lakes and rivers here which allowed for white man to fish and hunt game. In 1836, Captain John Fountaine established a trading post on the Brazos River near what is now Desoto. By 1840, Desoto had become one of the most important posts on the Santa Fe Trail because its location made it easy to get goods from Mexico City. In 1850, Congress created San Antonio County within present-day Dallas County and granted land east of I-35 to desotista José de la Garza y Zúñiga for his rancho de Acosta (now part of Arlington). This area included most of what is now Desoto except for a small piece that became part of League City later that year. On July 20, 1870,during their appearance before Judge David Boren at Waco courthouse on charges relating to an insurrection against Mexican rule duringthe Alamo War (1866-68), Juana Maria Zamora y Luna claimed descent from Hernán Cortés via her brother Alonso de las Casas through her father Francisco Xavier Zamora y Pacheco and mother María Teresa del Carmen Magdalena Ponce de León y Ponce de León; this claim was not authenticated until after World War II when DNA evidence was available On November 3rd 1865 Santiago Ramírez married Concepción Guerrero; this marriage produced two daughters: María Luisa (born February 15th 1867) and Gertrudis “Gerti” Victoria (born October 12th 1868). Gerti later married Harry Burnett Mills who ran a grocery store in nearby League City before moving back north to live with his family at 724 Bellefontaine Drive where he took over management from his father when he died in 1973; Gerti still resides there today with their three children: Harry Jr., Loretta & Patricia Burnett Mills In 1927/28 by orderof Governor James Buchanan Desoto's post office closed due to lack of mail volume despite being open twenty five hours per day which caused some inconvenience especially since all mail could be picked up by stage coaches running betweenDallas/ Fort Worth(DFW)and San Antonio(SA) . One solution offered by Governors Philander Knox Polk & James Buchanan was for USPostmaster General George C MarshallTo build an express facility adjacentto Presidio Station Rd.(now Midland Ave.)on about five acres west off Nacogdoches Rd.(now Loop 820))This new Post Office opened March 3rd 1929 under name “Desoto” After being built it had more than twice as many packages mailed per day as did Dallas/Fort Worth combined!Today “Desoto” continues To serveDesotos residents including those living outside Of The Town Limits

Desoto is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,574 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Desoto was James Waring who arrived around 1820. He named his place for General Antonio de Jesús de la Cruz y Rodriguez, commander of Spanish forces that had invaded Texas in 1821-22 under the pretense of helping to protect Mexican settlers from Spanish attackers. Waring may have been inspired by General Sam Houston's actions during the Mexican War (1846-48), which had ended with Mexico's defeat and incorporation into the United States as a state. In 1827, John Pemberton founded Pemberton Rancho Grande near present day Desoto on what is now Uvalde Creek and built a cabin there. By 1830, Pemberton had sold his land to Caddo Indian traders and erected a more extensive rancho on it about three miles east of present day Desoto. In 1832, George Año surveyed Parton Rancho Grande on what is now Uvalde Creek and laid out a townsite called "Año Nuevo" or New Año; this name appears on various maps up through 1840. In 1840, part of Año Nuevo was annexed to current day Desoto after it seceded from Kleberg County and became part of Johnson County; however, most adjacent acreage remained within Kleberg County until 1890 when it too became part of Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area In 1870 Anthony Fisher located an oil well at Anahuac Springs in present day Anahuac Township within Kleberg County but abandoned it due to low production levels despite being offered royalty payments totalling $1 million over 10 years by Bahamian company Royal Dutch Shell Petroleum Company Limited Partnership; however continued exploration produced no oil until 1978 In 1886 Hildegard Fenton leased 640 acres (253 hectares) along Uvalde Creek north of present day Desoto from José Ortiz Castro for Eighty Acres (28 hectares) per year with annual rent set at $2 ($0.50 par value) This lease remains unchanged to this date although Ortiz Castro died in 1907 without heirs In 1896 Eleazar Yarborough leased 1/4 mile west ofpresentdayDesotofrom Manuelita Baca for 99 years for 99 dollars ($0.) This lease also remains unchanged today although Yarborough died in 1951 without descendants
