On January 1, 1901, an act of the Texas Legislature created Dallas County and appointed John Pemberton its first county commissioner; this event marked an end to one hundred years of independent Tarrant County government under Governor James Patterson's leadership. On December 12th 1915 Denton's incorporation as a City made it possible for businesses located within its limits to lease space outside their own buildings without having to worry about taxation or property rights issues; this development led to rapid growth throughout much of downtown including what is now "TheDistrict". In 2002 Denton's newest addition - Southpark Mall - became home to the world's largest indoor water park following construction that included over 2 million sq ft (193 thousand m²) in floor space and 60 acres (24 hectares) of outdoor parkland across two levels with multiple restaurants and shops on each level with views overlooking Interstate 45 outbuildings next door

On March 25th Santa Anna's forces encountered Daniel Webster's force under Colonel John Foust at Palo Alto (now Midtown Dallas). Denton was founded in 1879 by John Denton, the son of a landowner. The city grew rapidly and by 1902 had a population of over 100,000 people. In 1916, Denton became the seat of government for the new county of Arlington. The city's growth continued during World War II with the construction of airfields and barracks in the area. In 1957, Denton annexed portions of adjacenttx County to form what is now called Deming.
